For me this has shades of the Info Broker's reacting with derision when he asks you to flip a switch and you're like "but first I need to collect three keys or something yeah?" It's all very well the game poking fun at CRPG conventions but in the end, it's still adhering rigorously to those conventions.

OrangeRKN wrote:On Monarch, I really liked the faction relationships. It's the game at its most nuanced, and Zora is probably my favourite character in the game for similar reasons.

I revealed that Graham was behind the Amber Heights massacre but now every time I approach Zora she tells me she needs time to think and she'll be in touch. I've now moved on completely from that quest so if she ever does restart it it'll be one of those "What? Oh yeah right, those guys." moments. Which I think is my core problem: the characters are great but they're hamstrung by an archaic game structure that's nigh on 15 years old at this point.

I found that funny in it's meta awareness, but I think the post office section was different - it wasn't a joke at the game's own conventions, it was using those conventions to make a joke about receiving deliveries in real life. The next time I have to trek down to the depot to collect a parcel I'm now going to be thinking how I'm essentially on a frustrating RPG fetch quest and that will make it a little more amusing and bearable.

The quest was good because it felt more frustrating than it actually was. None of the points were actually far apart and it didn't actually take very long, which is the real criticism badly designed quests of that ilk get.

Did you not go to the crashed ship as soon as you got the broker to send his message? Once you have the choice of who to gift the weapons to, on returning to Amber Heights Zora will talk to you on your way to find Graham. Maybe you missed this if you chose to side with MSI? Or maybe you've just skipped the resolution to MSI vs Iconoclasts on Monarch entirely (which was my favourite of the "big choices" in the game!)

I'm at Byzantium but echo the complaints of everyone else and getting really bored now. The wonderful thing about playing on PC is I can turn a trainer on and make it less of a bore and hopefully speed it up without worrying about weight/ammo etc.

See, this is where I felt the structure again: I didn't want to give the weapons to anyone. I was playing as a strictly anti-corp character so Sanjar was a definite no-no. But the game didn't give me an option to trash the module, or not one I could see. As I wanted to, you know, actually role play I decided to keep it, hoping the game would acknowledge this, but I guess that was wishful thinking.

Again, and I can't stress this enough, Disco Elysium has ruined this game for me.

I'm pretty certain the game will acknowledge that you didn't side with either when it comes to the endings. On my first playthrough I had MSI and Iconoclasts joining forces and both prospering, and then on my murder everyone playthrough (where obviously I didn't "resolve" anything other than shoot Sanjar and Graham et al) I had the two leaderless factions killing each other off and Monarch becoming a wilderness ruled by beasts.

So I think keeping the module is a valid choice, just probably not a very satisfying one in terms of pay-off - instead they are just left in limbo until the game end.

Yup. It's good that there are multiple possibilities, but bad that the third option in one of the game's major choices is literally 'do nothing, nothing happens until the end. Maybe.'

Also, who knew [inlinespoiler] could be shortened to [is]. Learn something every day.

I've not read too much of the last batch of posts as I'm trying to avoid anything even just a little bit spoilery but whilst I would agree with most of the criticism that has been shared - the game can get a bit dull, there could be a stronger or more compelling narrative and message to the whole thing etc. I have to say that I'm still having a great time with it.

There's a raft of things I would have liked them to have done better, and that I'm hopeful they get to have another swing at in a potential sequel (not that I've finished this and therefore know whether a sequel would even fit!) but it is still one of the best games I think I've played this year.

I'd prefer a pseudo-sequel in the same universe but a different system. Exploring new places is definitely more fun and there is some mystery set up there with what happened to Earth.

I'm still enjoying it.

I'm on Monarch and it has become a bit of a slog trying to finish off the massive amount of quests here. I think the game works best when you're in smaller, streamlined areas with only a handful of quests to complete.

Greetings fellow spacers,

At this time, we would like to let you all know that we are looking at releasing a patch next week to implement some changes and bug fixes. This patch is currently in the testing phase and as long as no other issues occur during this time, we hope to release it to you all sometime next week. Please be aware that this can change, but we are working hard to make this timeline and things are looking good thus far.

Resolved Issues:

• The crashing issue in Tartarus
• Increase Font Size - Conversations/Subtitles
• Muffled sound effects occur at random times for players on the PS4
• Companions dying and failing companion quests on modes other than Supernova
• Unable to finish "Radio Free Monarch"
• Trophy "Not the Best Choice" fails to unlock properly

Take-Two:

The Outer Worlds is "exceeding expectations" in terms of commercial success so far.

The Switch version of Obsidian Entertainment's latest (excellent RPG, if I may) will be out in early 2020.

Glad to hear it is doing well for them, it's a great game and deserves it. On that front I feel slightly weird playing it through Game Pass - although they obviously still get paid through the scheme and will get stats to show that I'm someone who has played it still doesn't feel like I'm supporting the developers in quite the same way!

Finished this yesterday. My previous comments still hold that after a very positive start my interest in the game waned. I found the conclusion a little rushed and anti-climactic which was a shame. Overall I'm left with mixed feelings. I have no interest in replaying the game to see the other outcomes of decisions but would be interested to see what they could do with a sequel, as for its many faults there is undoubtedly potential there - although assuming it is Xbox exclusive I probably won't get to try it for some time! Will stick with my previous score of 7/10, but it's closer to a 6 than an 8 after the disappointment of the conclusion.

What ending did you get? I looked it up and apparently there are 3 major endings

At least Switch owners don’t have too long to wait for it then, just hope it doesn’t come out the same day as Animal Crossing!

Made my way to Byzantium last night and it's certainly a different feel to the previous locations. Took a new crew partnership out with me that I'd not tried before - Parvati and Ellie ... they didn't seem to get a long with Ellie winding Parvati up and I ended up feeling quite defensive!

Decided to try and use stealth more whilst I'm here as the way I'm role playing it I figured my crew would not want to kick up a fuss on somewhere like Byzantium as it would draw too much heat. Managed to sneak my way into the Minister's Estate and get to him without alerting any of the guards which was quite fun, although the stealth mechanics are pretty underdeveloped which is a shame. I had picked up his parcel which I'm assuming would have been another way in, as well as the possibility of finding an ID to let me disguise myself - quite enjoyed using that approach for the Boarst factory mission on Monarch.

That brief section actually felt a little Dishonored to me. I used an ID cartridge first time, second time I shot everyone. He opens with "Why did you kill all the guards? Are you here to film another aetherwave spot..."

I followed the Phineas path so saved the Hope & skipped to Terra 2. Had to rescue Phineas from imprisonment. I managed to get Chairman Rockwell to work with Phineas but couldn't convince Sophia so had to fight the big robot and killed her. From there it played the slideshow showing all of the results of my big decisions during the game - some of which went better and others worse than I'd expected!

Finally finished, game started off great but was a chore to slog through by the end, which itself was a meh of an ending.
