You can get replacement batteries for that laptop, but the capacity doesn't vary much from what I can see. You'll just have to have a spare rather than one really good one, I think.

Also you can't really go wrong with a Samsung 850 evo SSD.

Its my once every seven years 'need to buy a new laptop' moment.

What can people recommend as either a 2-for-1 PC laptop or standard PC laptop in the £250 - £450 bracket?

One of these right?

Will I need to buy anything else with it (like I did when I got one for my desktop) or could I just stick in into the laptop?

That's the one. Is it a replacement one or can your laptop take 2 drives? If the former then you're fine.

I actually don't know if HP 250 G4 Business notebooks can hold 2 drives. The plan was always to take out the hdd and put in an sdd, I have a mate who is happy to sort a windows install out for me.

I very much doubt it, you may be able to get a caddy that can do in the CD Drive slot, but it I very much doubt it will do it normally.

So you're telling me I'm stuck with using HDD? Because I was recommended that laptop by a family member when I told them that I wanted a laptop I could use a SDD in.

No, it can have an SSD it just ca't have an SSD and a HDD at the same time, you would need to remove the HDD and replace it with an SSD.

Oh good I was planning on doing that anyway. Thanks. Going to order the 850 evo now.

For some reason on my laptop when I now rename a file (like a video or mp3 or whatever) it aligns the text to the left instead of to the centre like it normally would. I haven't (consciously) altered any settings or anything so not sure how to correct it - any ideas?

There are a few posts on Microsoft Forums about this, it seems to be a bug in a recent update.

Ah ok, glad it isn't just something I've done without realising!

I've got a feeling changing the drive on that laptop is a bit awkward. Not that it can't be done, but you basically have to take the whole thing apart to get to the drive.

I've ordered some extra memory and a new GPU for my PC and was wondering about the memory. I currently have 4GB that has a speed of 1333Mhz. I've ordered 2 8GB modules with a speed of 1600Mhz so my question is, would I get more benefit from 20GBs which I assume will all run at 1333Mhz or just 16GB running at 1600Mhz?

Yes?

I'd just run the 16 myself.

I would not mix sticks as in my experience this tends to lead to things like BSODs.

My birthday is coming up and I was thinking of getting a new monitor to take advantage of my new GTX1070. I was thinking of moving up to 2560 x 1440 resolution and I was wondering if there was anything good for around £250-300 anyone could recommend. I am more interested in the overall visual quality than having a "gaming monitor" per say as I don't do a lot of competitive stuff.

Went with the full 20GB in the end. Checked 16GB vs 20GB with Passmark and the 20GB gave favourable scores across the board. Not sure how good the PC is now with the 750 GTXti is as I don't have much to check it with, only Passmark and World of Tanks. WOT managed 15fps on medium prior to the memory and GPU upgrade, now it manages 100+ on medium and 90+ on high. Think I'll download Dead Rising 3 too see if that is playable. Is it possible to get a demo of this or any other PC games to see if they are playable before buying the full game?

Yes?

Well you can always take out the 4 if there's any issues anyway.

And demos aren't really a thing any more, unfortunately.

You can just buy the games on steam and refund if they don't work
