Well, being the impatient sort I am, I popped into PC World earlier to pick up a mildly overpriced Molex to SATA power converter, and came home looking forward to setting up my new hard drive. I was somewhat dismayed though when I realised I needed a pair of brackets to slot a second into my case, and it looked like MESH hadn't bothered to supply any. I searched the internet for the means to aquire a new pair, and discovered a thread from someone in a similar predicament on MESH's site. MESH told him he may be able to find a second set screwed to the inside of the case cover. ORLY? I thought. YA RLY! :D

So, I got both hard drives in place without any further trouble, and I'm now enjoying the wonders of Windows 7 x64. Having all my old files to hand through the old hard drive is an absolute godsend.

Are the system specs for Windows 7 high? I have a laptop that is coming up to 5 years old this christmas, guessing its too old to run Windows 7? Got a gig of RAM but the processor is only 1.8Ghz or something and only on-board graphics.

That should be fine, I reckon.

Here are the minimum Windows 7 requirements Microsoft offered in January when it released the Beta:

* 1GHz processor (32- or 64-bit)
* 1GB of RAM
* 16 GB of available disk space
* Support for DirectX 9 graphics with 128MB of memory (for the Aero interface)

Cheers, I realised how lazy I was being and had a look on wikipedia too. Hopefully my uni will have this up on our MSDN very soon.

June to be precise, which is rather generous.

I think it's basically a big PR thing. Microsoft admitted to Vista's "image problem" some time ago, in that loads of people have maintened a bizarre prejudice against it since it came out. This way, many sceptics are likely to try Windows 7 out anyway, as they've got nothing to lose, and ideally many of those who do won't want to go back.

It's rather nice, incidentally. So far it's not a massive leap over Vista in terms of content, but everything seems to have been improved and streamlined in someway. The new taskbar is the most obvious change, and it's both tidier and snazzier than Vista's XP style effort. I haven't noticed a huge improvement in performance, as Vista ran pretty quick for me on this system, but it's definitely a little quicker. I've yet to encounter a single driver issue, and my new hard drive rocks. I was rather surprised to see my Experience Index score jump from 5.3 to 5.9, with my graphics and gaming graphics scores creeping up to 6.0. Nice.

I'd imagine it will go up on MSDN or something, where you can pay and download the full version.

More like, "Microsoft don't provide an easy way back".

It's all over the place. Do a search for Windows 7 Build 7100 torrent.

My girlfriend has an error with her laptop. The "USB device malfunctioned, not recognized" error popup keeps appearing when a USB device is plugged in. The laptop is running Vista Home Premium. Now none of her (working) USB devices are working on the laptop; they just show up as "Unknown Device". I've tried reinstalling all the USB drivers, deleting the INFCACHE file, leaving the laptop off for 30+ minutes. I literally am lost as to how to fix this problem. Any ideas?

If I open it up is there any way to see if this is true? Or any test I can run?

I went to the BIOS, but it's an unhelpful shit-heap. I couldn't find any references or options relating to USB devices, or much else.

Trust me, the version you'll get on the 5th will be the same one I'm using right now.
