Yeah that'd be smart. Unless the laptop comes with a free upgrade to 7 once it's released, of course. I bought a laptop online with Dell a couple of months before Vista came out and got a free upgrade. They send you out the CD in the post.

You won't regret it. :)

I booted up Vista last night to track down my Office license key, and it felt so clunky by comparisson. I've never had a problem with Vista, but Windows 7 really is a big improvement. My new hard drive is ace too, quiet as anything, fast, and currently sitting around with over 800GB of free space. 8-)

Most of those specs are irrelevant. It all depends on the processor, to which Wikipedia says yes.

Cheers mate. As you can probably guess, I haven't got a clue.

Don't bother though, as you only have 2GB of RAM.

I'm in love with the new taskbar. Much tidier, and it has a touch of the Mac OS X dock to it.

I run windows 7 on my work PC which is a crappy dell optiplex with 1gb of ram. It runs perfectly, 2gb would be fine for W7

I think he's referring to running the 64-bit version.

I know, and it would still run fairly well on that setup. An intel dual core & 2gb of ram? That would easily handle it

To be fair, I'm running the 64-bit version. Mainly because $ilva told me to.

Can I just upgrade from W7 7000 build to 7100? Or do I have to do a clean install? If it's the latter I probably won't bother.

There's little or no reason NOT to if you can.

Just because you CAN support more than 4GB with Vista and up, doesn't mean you HAVE to. 2gb will do a reasonable job of running Vista. Any games that consume gigabytes of RAM will be painful though, naturally.

Win 7 should run better, because of it's reportedly overheads, shouldn't it?

In my experience, Windows 7 runs a LOT better on my laptop. Games run better, too.

Yeah, it is somewhat perplexing situation that some motherboard manufacturers have churned out board designs intended for 64bit processors that nullify the primary benefit of having a 64bit processor.
