Agreed, I can't see myself getting other pets after Loki and Maia shuffle off this mortal coil. I sometimes get the fear over the dog in particular - he's such a loving little (big) fella that the thought of him being unwell or in pain but unable to understand it brings a lump to my throat. :oops:

Yes, exactly what I've been thinking for the last few days. I said this to my daughter and she said "then why make any friends? They will die one day". Jokes on her though as I don't have any. Except the dog. :(

My pets are causing me stress at the moment, yesterday Lottie the cat was quiet and not eating so I took her straight to the vets, she had a couple of injections and seems to be getting back to normal and then today Sia the dog stopped eating and has been looking miserable all day, I hand fed her some ham and she ate that so hopefully tomorrow she will be back to normal,

Were you never told to give your dog chicken? Boiled chicken is normally recommend by the vet for stomach upsets. My dog used to love it served with the broth, drinking that as the starter and then gobbling down the chicken.

Guess chicken soup is not just the answer when humans get ill. 100 years in the future we will discover that when dogs get stressed you can give dogs a nice cup of tea.

Sorry to hear that DH. :cry:

We hope to get a dog one day, but the thought of losing them is horrible. Although having a pet that outlives you (like a tortoise) is also a horrible thought!

Hope your animals feel better soon. Just as an FYI, ham is not so great for dogs. As DH said above you're better off with boiled chicken breast, possibly mixed with plain boiled rice.

Our tabby, Willow, often comes in from outside and just cries at us like she's hungry. But if you get up to attend to her, she just runs back outside and then sits on the patio crying at us. All I can think is that she wants us to be in the garden with her which is pretty cute.

Thank you for the replies, I have given her some chicken today and she will eat it when you hand feed her, I worked out her normal daily calorie intake from her normal dog food and tried to give her the amount in chicken to compensate and she’s still slightly under but has ate enough to be ok, she is still alert and will get her favourite ball but still quiet and more interested in sitting in her bed rather than having a run around, tomorrow if she’s any worse then she will be going to the vets but at the moment she’s eating, drinking and going to the loo so hopefully she is just having a couple of off days

Just wondering from dog owners if dogs when not well stop grooming? I know cats groom a lot and if they stop it's often a sign something might be wrong.

I suppose it depends on the dog and if they tend to groom themselves a lot or not, I go by if I see changes in any of my dogs, they are all the same breed but all have very different personalities and traits

Staying at my parents at the moment to look after their cats as they are away. One of the dumb strawberry floats brought a pigeon in this morning, thing was virtually dead when I found it, slightly moving, massive cuts all over its body. Cat looks at my like he’s really pleased with the gift he’s brought me :x

I think the opposite is true. If you see them continuously grooming a leg for example, may be some kind of injury.

X-ray and scan today to decide fate....

It's not a gift, it's a trophy. Just like what a strawberry floating serial killer would do.

The scan results show that the dog has a tumour in his liver and spleen, not something that can be operated on (because it has spread and the vet believes there would be a chance of it coming back even if the dog survived the op).

So now the dog is on borrowed time, anything between a week and a year with two end options, one his quality of life simply deteriorates and it is time to put him down and two where the tumour explodes and he is put down or dies within 24 hours of it happening.

The only thing I can take some comfort in is that the dog is unware, ignorance is indeed bliss.

My cat has been super attentive and demanding of my love since I took her to the vet to get her claws clipped last week - she's currently lying between me and my laptop with her paws on one of my arms making it difficult to type. This love is always welcome but it's really out of character for her and I'm beginning to worry that there's an issue somewhere. :dread:
