If only there was some way to not let them lick your face.

There's a Wonderland documentary about dog owners tonight.

Documentary exploring people's extraordinary relationships with their four-legged friends. The film was made over several months by director Vanessa Engle, who approaches people out walking their dogs on Hampstead Heath, London, to ask why they have a pet and the role it plays in their lives. The stories they tell are in turns surprising, moving and profound.

Wonderland documentaries are usually worth a look.

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

I will say this, though - we have kids playing football behind our garden wall. Harmless in itself, but it inevitably comes over and they always try and help themselves to it, rather than come and ask for it back like I did in my day. The gf does not like this, says it makes her nervous.

Last week, a ball came over at about 7pm, so I quietly let the dog into the garden, knowing what would happen next. Kid got half way over the wall when she started barking. Proper, gutteral, going mental at him. Lad shat himself, jumped back over.

Two minutes later, there's a knock at the door and they politely asked for their ball back. I told him if it came over again, it belonged to the dog. Not seen them since. That's how the system should strawberry floating work.

Accidently left the neighbour cat in the house overnight. :fp:

She came in to get away from being bummed by the ginger as I was getting ready for work and obviously fell asleep somewhere so I forgot about her till I was off the train. Opened the door this morning and she was meowing like mad but my carpets and sock drawer appear to be gooseberry fool free. Good kitty. You deserve that tin of overpriced tuna.

Unfortunately, Nala decided that being alone wasn't for her, so she strawberry floated our gooseberry fool right up. She totally shredded the lino in the kitchen. Not bad for a day's work. :fp:

This was a couple of weeks ago and she's calmed down since then. Which is good, cos doggy daycare is expensive.

strawberry floating hell

My mum and dad's tow labradors went strawberry floating mental when we went out for the day once. We came back and not only was the kitchen floor a good couple of mm deep in diarrhoea but one of them had actually eaten the wall  Plasterboard the lot. You could see through to the hallway in parts.

Jebus. Yeah, we didn't have any structural damage and were grateful for that.

I can't deny, though, we're thinking of getting a second dog. Having bought an expensive puppy, I think we'd strongly consider a rescue dog. Feels like a gamble but it'd be nice to get a pal for Nala.

It's important to get the right one companion, dogs can be picky and jealous. My friend Mark got his dog a friend and they get along brilliantly, but my friend Mandi got a her dog a friend and they HATE each other. They always fight and never get along.

It would be tough. I'd hate to have to take a dog back. She likes other dogs and she's a bit aloof (trait of her breed) so doesn't get too jealous, but you never know how they'll react domestically. I'm not even sure how you'd go about finding out - can you take rescue dogs on a week's trial?! :shifty:

I'd want something a bit smaller than her, but not a terrier. Maybe a spaniel or border collie-sized dog.

Rocky asleep

He normally runs and barks in his sleep. Which is quite comical as it wakes him up.

Cracks me up the way dogs look like they're smiling when they're upside-down.

So we're getting a new dog on Saturday :D After our old one died earlier this year (around March I think), we got a bit sad at how quiet the place has been. We got in touch with our previous dog's breeder and she had a litter due in late August. We put our name down, but the only boy in that litter died soon after birth.

Then the same breeder got in touch with us last weekend to let us know she has a lovely 18 month old Golden who she was planning on using for breeding, but now can't as a condition with one of his eyes means she can't (something about the eye colour might change over time). It isn't anything bad for your average dog, but she goes for the pedigree (crufts and all that stuff), so only uses the best dogs.

TL;DR, meet Mylo:

And now she also has a litter due in November, and my parents are considering getting a pup, seeing as this fella is all trained and should be great company for another little one.

Awesome. Mylo looks wicked.

I'm far too soft when it comes to dogs. That one sentence about a puppy dying makes me feel sad.

What dog did you have before? I know what you mean about the empty house; ours had to spend a day at the vets recently and I was devastated. I really need to man up. :fp:
