Yeah sorry to hear that, hope he gets through it okay and it doesn't cost too much!

We've been so lucky with our dog, she's 12 now and we've only had to take her to the vet a handful of times for very minor things over the years.

Return it and get your money back. You going to be stuck with a sick dog for the rest of its life?

Poor dog, hope he gets better, he looks absolutely lovely. And don't return him cos he's sick! Sick animals need more love.

Did you pick up the dog from a service station car park?

We bought a little Cocker Spaniel puppy and have called him Henry and he’s the sweetest little thing.

Unfortunately, Monday night he was really ill and we took him to the vets on Monday morning and he has been diagnosed as having parvo. We’re currently spending the days with him at the vets, then we’re picking him up and trying to nurse him through the night before taking him back again in the morning.

Tomorrow will be day 3 of having the symptoms so hopefully he can pull through and start to get better but he’s so tiny I don’t know how much strength he has.

It’s so frustrating that the insurance won’t cover this as it happened within 48 hours of us getting him as we’re already £560 down on vet bills, then there’s the insurance cost (which isn’t covering this anyway) and the initial outlay we had to pay for him too so we’ve been absolutely rinsed recently. It’s horrible that him surviving this could come down to us just running out of funding for him but I’m going to give him as much as I can do as it’s so heartbreaking.

Has anyone had a dog that’s had parvo before and come out of it the other side? I need a happy success story I think.

I don't have parvo experience, but I'll post some general puppy stuff after work tonight. Tldr Our dog was sick when we got him and it turned out the breeder had given him the jabs etc he should have had, but adult strength ones and all at once.

I'm really sorry to hear this Joe, that's woeful stuff. I'd echo the comments about speaking to the breeder - not necessarily to return the dog but to let them know that the poor fella's got Parvo and that he or she will need to get all of the litter-mates checked. I don't know if I'm remembering this right but I think Parvo is very infectious and he's almost certainly gotten it while in their care as well, so they may be liable for some or all of the vet bills.

The guy was a private seller who bred his family pet. He was advertised as healthy and having had all jabs etc, then when we contacted him about it he said he hadn’t had his vaccinations. He’s told us that he’s contacted all the other buyers of the puppies from the litter and none of them have reported any symptoms to him.

He did originally say he was going to cover all the vet bills and was really communicative with us, but as soon as I sent him over the first bill of £400 he’s just been ghosting us.

I have got a little bit of money behind me where it’s not a major concern as I know we can afford to get by for about another grands worth of care before I can’t do anymore but I don’t want to just keep him alive for the sake of it.

We’ll be reporting the buyer once this is over either way, but I’m not hopeful of getting any money back or support from him at all unfortunately.

I would expect a puppy with parvo that gets quick treatment to survive. It's nasty, but he should be out of the woods in a few days.

strawberry float that breeder though, definitely.

We’ve just had the call from the vets now and they’ve told us that it’s really not looking good for him and it’s probably the right thing to do to put him to sleep. They’ve said they can keep trying different options, but it’s unlikely that it’s going to increase his chances of survival and just means throwing more money at him for the same inevitable outcome.

Hope you get some justice Hexx, sounds like the dog owners are dicks.

On a separate note, the hand action in that first GIF is just ripe for abuse by someone... :slol:

I nearly got into an Internet argument (shocking I know) and the stupid bitch poster to local Facebook (where the people had found Billy had posted to try to find owner) a long post how it’s not thief fault, someone tried to break in (happens fairly regularly then), left gate off latch , CCTV proved this, the police accepted it, not pen fault, dogs are violent to pieople/other dogs, confirmed not our fault.

5 words of 140 were ‘sorry to the cat owners’

Really sorry to hear to that mate, that's horrendous

I know it's not what you'll be thinking about right now but some action needs to be taken against the breeder.

Our pet insurance was useless because of how soon the claim would have been after taking the policy out but we’ve got legal cover on our home and both car policies so we’re going to try all of those.

We’ve only got one number for him and he’s not answering the phone or responding to any messages now. We’re £1,600 down with nothing to show for it other than the memories of caring for a sick puppy throughout the nights.

I just feel sick right now.
