Bloody cats

Ada  Dogs love slippers. Jack knows they're not for chewing or anything so he'll only take them if you hand them to him, and he'll just hold them.

I just had to make my apologies and mute my Mic while Presenting in a meeting, because the dog decided that he wanted my attention, and started throwing his stuffed toy around beside me and making noises.

Is there a specific thing or things that they are chewing? Dogs tend to chew things due to restlessness and/or boredom. Have you tried increasing the amount of exercise they get, and providing other stimuli to see if that helps? Also, do they have a specific chew toy available such as a NylaBone?

Those would be the first things to try before resorting to other methods

My co-presenter for a series of tutorials on a Monday(I say that, I’m her co-presenter and I don’t do much work) has a dog who likes to just wander in, mid tutorial, and pop up at the computer screen for a wee bark or a nosey. It’s brilliant.

Oh, so she's a puppy? In that case I would definitely pick up a puppy Nylabone. It will give her a specific chewing toy, and it will also help big-time when she is teething. They are generally flavoured too, so they dogs are more attracted to chewing it over other things in the house. Over time the idea is that it will automatically teach her good chewing habits and prevent her chewing other things.

Nylabones are good because they are designed to fragment into small pieces that can safely pass through the digestive tract. So unless you buy completely the wrong size, the dog won't be able to bite off chunks off it. Also, the nylon develops small bristles as it's chewed so it's an additional way of brushing the dogs teeth. They do eventually wear out though (we're talking months of use) so you'll need to keep an eye on them. Also, replace them with bigger ones as she grows as the puppy versions will eventually be too small/weak and be a potential choking hazard.

In terms of exercise - even though they can't go outside I'd still give them exercise indoors. Get a tug toy to play tug-of-war, and a soft ball for them to chase (and use an old rug to play on if you have nice wooden flooring as those puppy claws are like needles). Also consistent training gives them mental stimulation and is mentally tiring for them, so it can be as advantageous as physical exercise in terms of restlessness.

Id stay away from tug of war, because you absolutely cannot let them win as it makes them think they're dominant and can build aggression.

We were told that too. We ended up coming to an understanding with Loki that actually, he is the dominant one and he just lazes about my brother's flat nowadays comfortable in the knowledge that he's the big man and we're all just Loki-servants.

We did tug of war lots with Ada when she was a puppy and a younger dog (she's too old now and couldn't give a gooseberry fool about that kind of play! ) We never had any issues over dominance or pecking order in the house but I guess it will differ from dog to dog.

Used to love playing tug of war with her in fact, she used to really get into it!

A family friend's dog has recently had puppies and now the wife and kids have seen a picture of one and have started a campaign for why we should get him!

Not sure I've got the patience to take on a lockdown puppy right now but he is bloody cute:

Why do they need to campaign? What is wrong with you?
