PostThe Playlist Game - THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC - Results (Pg 2)
by more heat than light » Sun May 22, 2022 11:57 pm

Thanks once again to all those who participated in this final week. As I mentioned in the main thread, holding the creation deadline over the weekend has been problematic for some people, so I'm keeping this open for a couple of days, feel free to PM me if you still want to join in and I'll add you to the list.

A reminder of this week's theme.

Playlist 8 - Thank You For The Music

- You must select a song used previously by another player in The Playlist Game. This should be a song you've enjoyed personally, preferably one that was new to you (although obviously I can't police this!)
- You should build a playlist which puts this song in a new context.
- The song you choose must be included in your playlist exactly as picked by the other player. No covers, interpretations or different versions.
- Your playlist can include up to five tracks and last no longer than 20 minutes in total.

I'd like you to PM me with your favourite five playlists, ranked from 1st to 5th. This can be the playlist you like the music best of, what you think fits the theme well, or just something you think is clever and original. It's entirely up to you.

Closing date for votes is 11.59 on Sunday 29th May . If you've entered I would ideally like a vote, you will score -5 for your playlist if you fail to do so. If you haven't entered you are still welcome to vote.

Please feel free to discuss the playlists in this thread, but please try to keep yours anonymous, this adds to the fun of the game.

You don't have to listen to every minute of every playlist to vote. Please try to enjoy the music as much as possible, but I want this competition to be a casual, fun way to share music. Enjoy it, and don't stress too much.

1. Journey's End

2. Game Over

3. Quick, scarper, it's the fun police

4. I DON'T WANT TO LIVE ON THIS PLANET ANYMORE

5. Rock out with your fuzz out

6. Spectrum

7. I Love the Smell of Napalm in the Morning

8. Blackout

9. My Heartfelt Thanks for Listening

10. We're All Going On A Summer Holiday

11. Positively Charged

Initial thoughts:

Love that all the playlists have an image each!

One playlist has two tracks on it I've previously used  (I wonder if its creator realises  )

Not at all surprised to see that someone took the PSB track, I very nearly asked for it. It's one that has stuck with me too.

Great to see Tokyo Police Club, a real blast from the past there. I played their debut EP to death and even saw them live but simply never followed it up.

Yeah, this was pretty cool. Still plenty of time for someone to ruin it though... :shifty: ;)

I'm very happy to see a few of my previous song choices have been used in this round.

Probably won't have a listen to any of their playlists until late this afternoon as I'll be watching my brother's wedding via Zoom shortly.

I like the Go! PSB track too. I also like first and last track on the positively charged list. My front runner list so far is the Blackout list - because its got the most imaginative picture.

I like Blackout, not a single bad song on there.

Please do not post this in the "No Context" thread

Have made it through 8 so far, but I'll be surprised if anything overtakes 'Rock out with your fuzz out' for me.

Also, in shock I didn't hate the Cradle of Filth track! All down to the vocals...

This is me as well.

I like a lot of stuff this week, have been through them all once but I'll definitely get more chance to give them a few more listens.

Don't like that Elliot Minor song at all, mainly because of the horrible emo vocals, the rest of the playlist is alright with an obvious standout being the Ghost track.

Vocals being overly whiny, mumbly or annoying in some way are a major bugbear of mine and can totally ruin a song I'd otherwisc like.

I can listen to a band/artist for the first time and be really enjoying the music but the moment I hear the singers voice is the point that decides whether I carry on listening or not.

Got a good listen through everything today...

Rock Out still my fave, but enjoying the Game Over and Smell Of Napalm lists; though, that Grandaddy tune sticks out like a sore thumb amongst the others.

The list that PSB Go (which I love) is on just wants to make me skip it each time :dread:

Also, liking the Pigs Hot Stuff cover!

Unfortunately we didn't receive any further playlists for during the extended deadline for this week. So voting is now open for this week. Deadline is Sunday night. :)

I've voted now 8-)

Broadly I've found that my opinion of this week's playlists broadly correlates with my original opinion on the track each is formed around. Apart from the one with the PSB track at the end :slol: Given the name of that particular playlist, I'm presuming it's intentional.

Hoping to pick up some votes this week. My last chance to bump up my paltry current average...

I actually really like that Grandaddy song, so that playlist is very strong for me. Not really much in the way of discovery though - I listened to it but I didn't really need to!

Got a long drive to do tomorrow so hoping to fit in a listen to all of these then, can already spot a few that I think I'll love as well as one or two that might be painful!

I like the Grandaddy tune too, it's just an odd fit with the other tracks!

Game Over is my current favourite, mainly for the Pole Position theme and Last Wave.

And yes, that Grandaddy song doesn't fit with the rest of the playlist given it's from a totally different era.

And yet it's the track the playlist is built around!
