My thoughts.

1. Inoffensive enough indie fare, but not troubling my points this week. Maps is a great tune that I've heard too much (thanks Rock Band) and the Feist song had me grinding my teeth a bit. Liked the other two songs here though.

2. Ironhide goes electric! Four great bangers here, I say this a lot but it's not my usual tastes. Can't deny these are great tunes though.

3. I've liked some of the Japanese music posted in this game so far, but this one didn't really do it for me. It wasn't as 'fun' as previous efforts, and as someone mentioned in the thread there's something a bit sterile and overproduced about it all.

4. Ah, this is annoying. I know I should like this more than I actually do, but it just seems a bit too meandering and aimless. PJ Harvey track was cool though.

5. Stylistically this is all over the place, but everything was at least enjoyable to my ears. Billie Eilish song was cool, and I even enjoyed the Tool track, who usually do nothing for me.

6. I really like the xx opener, but after that I'm struggling here. I liked the Aesop Rock track in the last round bit this one not so much. The others weren't that enjoyable to me. Sorry Dan.

7. I thought this was great fun, and a total nostalgia fest. I'd maybe have switched out Song 2 for something equally 90's indie cheese, but other than that I can't really fault the execution of what they've gone for here.

8. Absolutely loved this. jiggles mentioned that if one player 'got this at the right time' it would work, and I had that exact experience. Was walking back from work late at night, and it was almost a spiritual experience. Absolutely glorious.

9. Fine for what it is. I can't say I really enjoy listening to any of them, save the Frankie Goes To Hollywood classic. It's just way too cheesy for me.

10. As I mentioned earlier, this is just too up and down for me. The opener is absolutely brilliant, and new to me. I also dug the Foals track. The other two, not so much.

11. A sublime playlist, with Bowling For Soup dumped in the middle of it. It makes me sad looking at a classic like 1979 sat next to that atrocity haha. Love the theme though, really good.

12. A really good, nicely themed list. I think the Arcade Fire track works better in the context of that album than as a standalone song, but otherwise this is pretty great. Closing song was not at all what I was expecting.

13. A pretty cool selection of songs here. Interesting that this just pulled a load of 1's and 2's in the votes, almost like it was in 'very good but not great' territory. I think the last three tracks are brilliant, I'd probably have ditched the Monkeys due to overfamiliarity.

14. Mine. I got really frustrated halfway through this week when I realised I could have used Can't Help Falling In Love by Elvis (referenced in the Spiritualized opener) at the end and it would have been magical. Oh well. Sad bastard songs for sad bastards.

15. Hugely impressive list here, even after borrowing those five seconds! Just utterly inspired math rock, totally all over the place and really interesting throughout. Loved it.

16. This was a little bit hard-rocking for me, but The Holy Bible is one of my all time faves so kudos for including a track from that. Final track was pretty interesting.

17. A lovely list of modern classical tunes. I think I preferred the other chillout one over this one, but it was still a very nice way to spend 20 minutes.

I can't recommend the album Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space enough really. It's such an experience. Some other great records in their discography too, but that's definitely the place to start.

I can't believe I got to put a King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard song about a cyborg who longs to be able to die and vomit in a playlist, and won. Incredible.

Not last! Yes!

And I loved the King Gizzard song - excited to see them next month at last.

Here are my thoughts on each playlist:

1: Overall a very pleasant listen but nothing that grabbed me. Maps is a great song, as always, but everything else was a bit too slight.

2: Four great songs that flowed together nicely, especially between the last 2 tracks. I'd forgotten how great the Richard D. James album is and how good Underworld were. This was my Number 1 pick.

3: The first track started off promisingly but then the autotune kicked in and just lost me. The rest was ok but nothing to pull me back for a second listen.

4: A really good mixed bag of a playlist, with the RSi being the standout track for me. I liked a lot about the first track but it did go on a bit too long without changing it up enough.

5: Strong start with the Kandrick Lamar track but following it up with Twin Atlantic didn't work for me and I wasn't a fan of the song. Like others I thought the the shift from xanny to Sober worked well.

6: The Aesop Rock song was by far the standout track from this list, I hadn't heard anything by them before but it was very much the style of rap music I like best. The rest all fell a but flat with me.

7: Was a nostalgic listen but it felt very bland overall. Song 2 is a good song but I have heard it too much for it to make an impact, Envy was a song I hadn't heard for a while so that was fun. Not a fan of either of the Turn songs, the Travis one is very dull and Feeder have much better songs than this.

8: Lovely ambient tunes put together in a playlist that kept a great flow through out, will definitely be checking out all of these bands further.

9: Would win the Ronseal award for 'Does what it says on the tin', should such an award exist. 'I Ran' is still a tune but not fussed on 'Maria' and 'Gold' at all.

10: I feel pretty much the same as MHTL on this playlist, strong start and then it drops off from there. Especially alongside other playlists that I found much stronger.

11: Another up and down list for me. I quite enjoyed the Bowling for Soup song but it definitely stuck out in style to the rest of the list. Was good to relisten to 1979 as I was never a big fan of it so I was surprised how much I enjoyed it this time round.

12: Really liked this playlist but it was one that I already knew two songs on it really well to start with. I haven't listened to much LCD Soundsystem but it was a great choice to end on.

13: Another list that I thought was decent but didn't stand up to others on the list for top five consideraation. Wasn't keen on the War on Drugs song which for some reason made me thing of Dire Straits, I think the guitar tone was giving me Sultans of Swing vibes.

14: I love the opening track and it kept up the tone and standard throughout. I find the Flaming Lips can be very variable but this song worked well in the context. The Antlers track really grew on me after a couple of listens as well.

16: Starts off with three songs from albums I love and then finished off with a spce rock Fitter Happier. Great stuff.

17: A playlist that I definitely want to listen to again as I think I'd need to be in the right mood for it to really click. I really liked the last two tracks, Stars of the Lid are a great band.

Playlist 15 was mine, I wasn't sure how it would do so it is nice to see that some people really liked it. I had been meaning to join in for a while after seeing the results threads but kept missing the new round announcements, I saw that week 6 was open about an hour and a half before the deadline so I quickly pulled something together and submitted it. Unfortunately I had worked out the timings by hand (I didn't have Spotify yet), obviously I made a mistake going slightly over and there wasn't time to change it up before the deadline. So apologies to all for it being outside the rules, I will not make the same mistake going forward!

It deep dives each minute of the radio chatter in the lunar module's descent and goes back to the creation of the computer and the failed launches of the late fifties. It also explains why the third guy is the only one who screams "GO!" at the top of his voice while everyone else is playing it cool

I loved this.

Will check that out

And obviously check out the album The Race For Space by PSB as it's absolutely excellent. And another vote for the BBC podcast, that is also very cool.

I've listened to this twice this morning and it's really quite something! It really evokes a lot of feeling and wonder.

Dowbocop wrote:Over the moon with that :D Mine started out as an opera and I was going to have a REALLY long title telling the story, but the songs I wanted were only 91 characters so I had to completely pivot to modern classical stuff. I'm glad so many people enjoyed it!

I was very close to voting for Knoyleo's as well but it just lost out on my personal list. Mine was clearly a bit Marmite, I either got high points or none.

My votes
15 It comes and it goes, it comes and it goes
3 Effort? No I'm really idol
8 Concentration Aids
4 Short Round
10 Reach for the stars!

Very high quality this week, if I'd had to pick a sixth best I'd have been in trouble!

Another respectable position; I'll take that! I really wanted to put on King Crimson's Starless and Bible Black as it's my fave of Red but that was obviously a non starter! Beak> also have better songs on that album but was restricted to the theme. Surprised Ironhide hadn't heard the PJ Harvey tune! Spotlights are relatively new to myself too; wanted an Isis tune originally but they don't have any short named songs.

My votes:

1. Playlist 15
Some math/post rock? Oh yesss! :D Hadn't heard any of these bands before; love the Giraffes? Giraffes! and Alpha Male Tea Party tunes. Do Make Say Think was pretty good, but Mum was a bit insipid.

2. Playlist 16
QOTSA and DFA  The Manics and The King Gizzard tunes are pretty good - must listen to one of King Gizzard's albums, I've just heard the odd song on the radio.

3. Playlist 2
Love the Talvin Singh tune (it was the only one I hadn't heard previously) and the Aphex Twin and Underworld tracks are pretty good. Moby's Go is fine, though i prefer his stuff around the Animal Rights / Play era.

4. Playlist 14
Spiritualized, The Flaming Lips and Grandaddy tracks are all good. Didn't like really like The Antlers track though.

5. Playlist 13
Arctic Monkeys, BRMC, Hope of States and War on Drugs all pretty good; just didn't love the songs enough to promote higher.

Outside my top 5, my new (to me) artist highlights were: Wagamama Rakia (loving the heavy side of this tune), Phoria & Throwing Snow (love the spacey/scifi vibes), Pale Waves (fun pop). No real lowlights this week, something to like on all!

I've only just realised this evening that my Numberwang playlist could have had 1999 by Prince instead of two different 1985's! :fp:
