Congratulations to SpaceJebus, whose victory is somewhat karmic given that the format of this final round was largely his suggestion.

A deserved winner, but I genuinely did think they were mostly all great this week. Well done all, and thanks again for this lovely surprise.

How accurate were your predictions for the who's who MHTL?

Will post some thoughts later on. I wasn't a massive fan of that Illion song in my list, but the James Blunt comment was particularly cutting! :evil:

According to Dan I only got 4/9 right, which surprised me. A couple of my guesses were just back to front though, I think I was close-ish.

Curious how many of those tracks you knew before you put the playlist together dmin. I thought that one might be yours based on a couple of the tracks, but I've never seen you explicitly choose the 'theme' over the music, if you know what I mean.

Not what I picked as top, but that's been a theme of the whole competition! :lol:

Good effort all round though.

My playlist was inspired by the Sif character and battle from Dark Souls, mainly because all things Souls have been on my mind a lot recently thanks to Elden Ring

Yours has had me going on a bit of a Suede binge, so thanks for that! Dog Man Star is one of my all time faves.

Yes, the theme was the main consideration. I thought more people would do the same as myself tbh.

Had picked the Low track to start with, but decided to change when SpaceJebus bagged it. The Wedding Present's Thanks was very nearly Led Zeppelin's Thank you, but again thought somebody would use that. More Heat Than Light was the easy pick! For the music I happened upon - really like that tune. Especially was the hardest pick, couldn't find anything else agreeable but it's on the right side of OK.

I didn't know that one, I was familiar with the Veils track of the same name, but I definitely prefer yours. If I'd been involved this round I could have picked the track that actually inspired my username!

My votes & thoughts:

1. Playlist 4 - Lo-fi for MHTL
A real high quality playlist, I love all the bands/tracks on here. As I said before, might have picked a different Malkmus tune, but it's all good!

2. Playlist 5 - Medical Drama!
Gets off to decent start with UFO but it's the really strong middle that propelled it to 2 for me. 3 great tracks; followed up with Judas Priest! :lol:

Never been a fan myself; quite like the guitars, but it's the singing on this.

3. Playlist 3 - It's not Finnish... It's Finnish
A-ha is the obvious highlight here - one of my fave tunes since I was a nipper (which pushed this list into 3rd). The other tunes are pretty good and I quite liked the theme; there's nothing really to dislike here.

4. Playlist 9 - Cheers man, have some fruit salad
Again, liked the theme and liked nearly all of the bands/songs. I (quite harshly) marked it down on the track chosen to start the list with though. Really would have been better with another selection.

5. Playlist 6 - Forrins sang Forrin
A pretty electic but fun listen. The Plastic Bertrand track is so good; could just listen to that on repeat.

Outside of my top 5, my highlights were: Tennis, Fatboy, Silverchair, The Waterboys. My lowlight was that Big Enough tune, ugh.

Hadn't heard this before. This track puts me a little in mind of Teenage Fanclub.

I still can't decide whether You're the Voice is absolutely terrible or completely fantastic.

I'm not gonna lie, this was in peak Britpop era and a lot of that music has aged terribly! Was just a favourite at the time I joined here.

Happy to have won the round but happier to see that MTHL liked my list and has found something he hadn't heard before
