I only got half way through it, but yeah. Its somewhat like a cross between Dark Souls and Ninja Gaiden, if you are a fan of either I can't imagine you disliking this game.

I love Nioh. The likes of Bloodborne likely still have it beat in terms of the monster design and other stylistic flourishes/aesthetics, but the core gameplay had me hooked and keeps me coming back for small bursts of play. Intense, fast paced combat that requires patience to succeed (I would argue done far better than any Souls game) and that minute to minute engagement kept me hooked for 70+ hours. The Season Pass adds three excellent new chapters, with some of the best levels in the game, and even more bastard hard to boot.

The amount of content you'll get in that base game is great too. Huge amount of optional content with double-hard battles for you to punish yourself with should you desire. I rank it alongside The World Ends With You for striking a good balance between allowing the story to progress at a steady pace without walling you off with impossible spikes, while presenting enough side content to really test your skills.

Nioh is brilliant. It's Bloodborne meets Diablo. It's hugeeee too. Even without the DLC. The combat and guardian spirits means you get more customisation and depth than even dark souls. So many builds out there.

Yeah, I've always appreciated Souls for its world building, design, and approach but could never really get on with the combat and actually progress through the game. Nioh looks more suited for me going by what you and Banjo say, even if the world building and story are significantly less impressive than its peers'.

Might pass on the DLC (unless it's categorically brilliant) even though it's only a few quid more just because I'm getting to the point where adding more hours of doing something in a game is counterproductive to finishing all these other games I want to.

The DLC adds 3 bonus campaigns that are intended for post-game. A tonne of new missions and some new weapons (Tonfa and Odachi) and the main story missions of these campaigns are some of the very best in the game. However, the season pass does go on sale semi-regularly so you may want to buy the game solo right now and if you take to it, get the DLC down the line?

Hey you! Yeah you!

You know what else is on sale?

The Council

https://store.playstation.com/en-gb/pro ... NCILCMPLED

Imagine if the dialogue scenes from Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Telltale games etc were the full game (and one or two properly taxing puzzles). There's little wandering around (although you can explore)

It's the late 1700s and you are Louis de Richet on the trail of his mother who has disappeared in very mysterious circumstances in a 'closed room' (really a manor on a island) scenario

Present are a gathering of real and fictional historical figures (mostly "real") of the time who have gathered for a mysterious meeting - and all of whom are involved in a (or more than one) secret society.

Dialogue forms the vast majority of the game (either as discussions or "Confrontations" which are effectively boss battles where you have certain number of attempts to break through barriers). Characters have vulnerabilities or immunizes to certain approaches.

You gain exp that you can level up various skills (e.g. Manipulation, Questioning, Logic) to help you take advantage of these weaknesses. (There's also "classes" which basically means some skills are cheaper to level up)

It's from a smaller developer - so graphics are acceptable without being outstanding (facial expressions could be better) but it's got a strong theme and style and looks lush (if not photo realistic). Voice acting is general solid, if unspectacular, but nothing awful. (Louis is very very french, but speaks with an American accent that can take some getting used to)

Fancy staying in with something engaging during these cold, dark, winter nights. You should give this a go.

(I'm only up to Chapter 3 out of 5...all are available now)

One to add to my Wishlist, let's hope that it hits the sales next year as I've brought too many games in the past few weeks.

Bought the Spyro Trilogy in the sale, that'll be my Christmas Eve game.

Also bought Earth Defense Force 5, can't wait to start playing it. Such a brilliant series which uses every last drop of PlayStation power to put more enemies on screen. If only Dynasty Warriors could do the same.

Wish my image sig would work
