I know it's not about poker, but it is about Phil Ivey:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-41751208

I'm a novice on the subject, but isn't that a big old bag of bullshit? I appreciate the judgement that it was "essential that punto banco remained a game of pure chance with neither the casino nor the player being able to beat the randomness of the cards that were dealt", but surely that's the casino's responsibility? If Ivey exploited "minute differences in the patterns on the back of playing cards", the casino should find a way to prevent that in the first place.

It's so strange that the casino agreed to his demands on decks and things to give him the edge and I'm sure if he lost millions they would of kept the money.

I'm off to Koln next Tuesday so going to check out the German poker scene.

Ah, I didn't know that part of the story. In that case, I suspect they intended all along to use it as a reason not to pay out.

He did this at 2 casinos and asked for certain decks due to them having a defect and he made a few other requests and the casinos all agreed.

The casinos got greedy and because he won millions they then refused to pay him.

$1m for One Drop back for 2018.

Sadly Chris Ferguson has won a bracelet at the WSOPE and secured POTY.

Phil Ivey didn't deserve his money. Edge sorting is obviously banned in casinos.

The casinos agreed to his terms to give him the edge with the decks well known for defects they agreed and comped him to keep him gambling.

They got greed and so now there refusing to pay him.

Nearly the end of the year and I'm up for the year between poker and slots about 6k which has helped with the wedding fund.

Sorry but Ivey doIng that is shady as strawberry float. I don't see him as some 'lad' for beating the game. It's essentially a heist. You wouldn't pay a craps player with loaded dice. They were essentially loaded cards!

I don't seem him as the good guy here but the casinos knew the risks and complied with his requests.

But as outlined if a game is found to be fixed later on (for instance loaded dice)....it would be taken back. I'm not sure why this is any different.

Re: Power up poker. Played a $1 game against Jaime Staples tonight live on his stream. I closed the stream so my conscience was clear re: cheating and then promptly lost. Tbf he did have a 2:1 chip lead when we went HU and seemed to hit every flop from what I could see :fp:

I had $20 in my Stars account and on the day it came out I gave Power Poker a go expecting the worst, but actually it was surprisingly fun and the power cards just add an extra layer of skill to poker without taking anything away.
I built my balance up to $90 against people making some obvious mistakes but I've withdrawn it all now. Don't really like the direction Stars is heading, might to another site.

Edit: A couple of tips for power poker. The power cards work well in certain combinations, and also some can be less useful at points in the game. The EMP one is only good if you shove after it, but early on I'm not shoving so I would use that card before folding just to get rid of it and get something better. I never saw anyone else discard cards and often people thought I had misclicked or something, but having three good cards is probably better than having AA.

I often found myself in a situation where I'd fold and the other two players would go at each other using all their points and cards. The next couple of hands you have huge advantage over them and can take down basically any pot if they can't play any good cards.

It's often best to check flop/turn when you are strong because players can destroy the last card. If flop is perfect wait until the turn to bet, if turn is good wait til the river.

On a similar note, a player might look at the next two cards and keep them (or pick one of three), before betting. You can then use the same card to discard the ones they've chosen or use a reload and throw it away. Now it's hard for them to continue.

How's 2018 going lads? I'm trying to grind low stakes again to see where I can end up by mid-year. Had £20 leftover on Sky from what I withdrew last year to go towards flights, and have ground it up to £230 in the last few weeks playing a load of £3 DYM (fifty50) games on Sky. Doing a 500 game challenge with a few other players. The games involve a six-handed table, start with 100BB, 5 minute blinds. Game ends with 3 players remaining. So far, I've cashed 150/218 (68.8%). These are very soft so worth looking at if any of you grind micro from time to time. Fairly happy with the progress so far. Gold star on SharkScope (including being the most successful Sky player on these DYMs in 2018 so far) and on a couple of the worldwide ranking boards for the game type.

Long may this continue. What's happening with you chaps?

Played an online tournament on Grosvenor Poker the other night where Will Kassouf and Joe Beevers and others were playing with decent tournament ticekt bounties on their head, but didnt get all that far after running two pair into a straight and then losing my golden oppurtunity to quadruple up with Kings when the board came A-10-3 all diamonds and I had to fold post flop.

Got a £100 ticket to play a tournament start of Feb I won last year, hope I can spin that up.

Thanks dude.

Shoulda won it really. Had one of the biggest stacks I ever had with 29 players left. Raised with Queens, got re-raised by the other big stack - and I didn't want to create a big pot so I just called his 3bet.

Q-4-2 flop. Oops.

Put out a bet, he calls - I know I've got him, play to break him - do so. I've got 20% of the chips in play!

Had 32% of the chips going into final but had a bit of a torrid time before recovering to be 28% of chips going into heads up, which unfortunately was one way traffic.

I have to bump this thread after recording my biggest cash ever last night in the South Coast Grosvenor 25/25 - yet again 2nd place but this time for £6,600 after a deal was made. For a heads up machine, I'm having a torrid time in heads up match ups recently so missed out on the trophy and £1,200 more. But yes absolutely thrilled with the result. It means from a £5 last longest bet and a £30 tournament entry I have now won near to £9,000 with I believe three second place finishes.
