The game also runs at NTSC 60Hz, so another improvement for us in the UK over the PS1 copy.

Unfortunately it doesn't appear as if this version is currently available to purchase separately, nor does the PS3/Vita copy unlock the game on PS4/5. No trophy support from Namco either.

Some of the other PS1 Classics however are PAL 50Hz. Now you might be thinking 'well who cares, that's how we've always experienced them over here anyway!', but because we're no longer using 50Hz hardware to play them, these titles will still be outputting at 60Hz on a PS4/5, which can cause rather noticeable judder depending on the game. In many ways it's going to be the PlayStation Classic situation all over again. While the letterboxing of the PAL originals was eliminated, all the PAL games ran worse than they did on the original PAL PlayStation.

Mixed bag rather than definitive. Looks like some games will be better than the original, some games will be better in some specific areas (graphics, trophy support, rewind/save features) and worse in others (gameplay) and some will just be inferior.

But that jank polygons, Moe! The jank!

Seriously. There's a charm to the flickery nature of early polygonal games which means I'd opt for that mode ahead of the improved visuals. (There's a indie adventure/3D platformer type game that's in production with a semi-open world but early PSOne era polygons. Looks really good.)

This covers not only discounted Subs bought from PSN directly, but also discounted Days of Play subs bought from third party retailers. Days of Play codes are generated specially by Sony as different codes to normal Plus codes, so they know if it was normal or discounted.
Only way you won't be impacted is if you got a regular Plus code at a discount from a third party.
(You can check in your subscription settings if you have a standard or Days of Play sub)

Confirmation from PS Plus customer support that someone posted on ResetEra

Thanks for contacting Play Station Support.

Questions about your inquiry about PlayStation Plus membership subscription price, thank you for your support. Since you purchased the PlayStation Plus membership at a discounted price at that time, this new PlavStation Plus membership is launched and there are two PlavStation Plus memberships that cannot enjoy other discounts:

1. PlayStation Plus membership bought with a discount.
2. PlayStation Plus membership redeemed with redemption code.

Therefore, if you need to upgrade to the second or third level of premium membership, you need to make up for the difference in the previous discounted price first to return to the normal price, for example: the one-year PlayStation Plus membership was HK$308, the discount price was HK$187.6, and the difference was 120.4X the number of days in the remaining month, please rest assured, if you need to upgrade, the system will automatically calculate the amount that needs to be paid back difference.

Of course, you can also choose to upgrade or downgrade the membership service according to your own preferences. If you do not upgrade, the PlayStation Plus membership service you are currently using will not be affected. Game discounts, monthly free games and online storage The usage rights of 100G of space remain unchanged, please rest assured.

Finally, we have recorded and dealt with your valuable comments, thank you for your support. I hope this helps. But if you have any other questions, please contact PlayStation Support and a support person on our team will be happy to assist you

It's almost like they want this service to fail. Did Jim Ryan or whoever watch The Producers before signing off on this?

So someone who bought a discounted code from ShopTo checked their account,

Dam just checked my account and sure enough:

PlayStation®Plus: 12 Month Membership - 33% Off

This was bought from Shopto as well so it's almost like they are tracking which codes are being sold by retailers for a discount, crazy.

Reminds me of Bleem on Dreamcast, in which the select few compatible PS1 titles (such as Gran Turismo 2) looked considerably better.

Am I gonna have to pay a strawberry floating upgrade fee if I play PS+ June onwards using a Days of Play discounted DualSense? What a total piss-take by PS.

Thinking about this, is it even legal? How can they effectively withdraw an offer price after purchase?

The upgrade plan picked by Sony really isn't the smartest.

I'll be pretty much bang on half way through my years PS Plus subscription. The yearly price increase from Essential to Extra is £34, so for me it will be roughly half of that, or £17. Sticking on a further fiver on due to my ten quid discount back in December is probably going to hurt Sony in bad PR (see this topic) than the five quid will benefit them.

I don't think you'll have to pay anything extra for your existing PS+ sub to continue to it's current expiry date; it's only when folk choose to upgrade to a higher tier that Sony will start their payment shenanigans.

Yes, but even so, this effectively removes the discount you purchased in good faith, seems open to serious legal challenge, if you ask me (not a solicitor).

I'm not sure there's much grounds for legal issues. What you bought was a PS+ sub. Sony will probably take the approach of "well just don't upgrade and you'll continue to get what you paid for".

I imagine the process is entirely legal. You bought a service, you have that service. Want to change it, the business sets the price. Doesn't make it a smart move though.

Effectively they are making upgrading to a higher tier less appealing to anyone who has a current PS+ sub bought at a discount. That just makes those people less likely to upgrade. Will Sony make more money because those that do upgrade, the extra cost will offset those who don't but would have if the upgrade was cheaper (read: the same price it is for everyone else)? I'm not so sure, and even if they do, is that worth the PR hit?
