Is it coming in the same sense as it is on Xbox or is it part of PSplusplusplus?

It's included in PS++ and PS+++ I believe.

Cool. Means I won't have to pay Ubisoft money myself.

Classic Games Catalog
PlayStation Plus Premium**/Deluxe Plan

PlayStation Plus Premium/Deluxe members will have a selection of popular classic games to play, with some titles that will show improved frame rates and higher-quality resolution compared to their original launch versions. For select original PlayStation and PSP classic games, members will also enjoy a new user interface with menus that allow you to save your game at any time, or even rewind the game if you want a do-over.

Also, players who have previously purchased the digital version of select games from the original PlayStation and PSP generation will not have to make a separate purchase or sign up to PlayStation Plus to play these titles on PS4 or PS5. When these titles are released for PS4 and PS5, players can head to PlayStation Store and download a version for the consoles at no extra cost if they already own the digital version of the title. Some of the titles will also be available for individual purchase.

A consumer friendly move from Sony there, for a change.

Excellent news, they've only gone and done the right thing!

Looking forward to seeing what PSP and PS1 games are included now

It's not on there yet, but I believe it was announced a while back, but I think it's a separate sub.

Qualifiers like "some" and "select" doing some very heavy lifting here I suspect...

Full backwards compatibility for PS1,2 and 3 will be announced along the sub. Your old discs will work on the console or a huge selection of games will be available on the subscription.

Actually I’ve just remembered this happened back in 2020, so I’d say pre-PS4 games are definitely in, but your discs won’t work and it’ll be cloud based.I

https://www.gtplanet.net/sony-patent-ps ... -20200709/

Unless, of course, it is simply the distribution of the games that is being in the cloud, the emulation VM runs on the PS5, and it pulls games down as needed from *within* the emulator. Which would be pretty strawberry floating good, a lot like what Nintendo do with the virtual consoles on Switch, but with all of them in the one app. Sony “owning” the games like that (rather than running the code on your disc) could let them add enhancements like higher resolution, trophies, rewind, save states etc. But on the other hand, with the licensing issues there have been with re-releasing PS1 and PS2 games in the past, the library is going to be small and it’s going to be mostly gooseberry fool.

The only thing left up in the air really is how they are launched and delivered (separate titles from the store or single legacy launchers with the different games within).

I’d advise anyone getting excited about their old purchases to temper their expectations. Particularly if you were going to be on the tier that offers the retro games, because you’ll be getting nothing with this, really. You’ll only be able to access a game like that if it’s included within the top tier of the service. The only difference is that if you bought it in the past you don’t have to subscribe to get it.

I turned my Vita on the other day and there it was installed - I must have bought it on the Store many, many moons ago. If I can get that on my telly I’ll be buzzing.

I've got it on my vita too, but I'd love it on the proper tv.

Aye. It's like how PornHub on mobile is perfectly serviceable, but sometimes you just really fancy a tug in the living room.

Riiiiidge Racer!

Disappointed that Spiderman is only the PS4 edition. Seems the main omission as far as PS5 versions goes.

I take it no info on trophy support for PS1/2 games?

Would be the excuse needed to spend another 6 months of your life on the verge of tears trying to finish Tomb Raider 3. Or Rayman. Or Driver. Relive the glory years of coming home from school and spending your entire evening making zero progress. For a week.

I would very much like for any trophies earned via these PS3 additions to stack onto my existing trophy lists. Being able to redeem myself by collecting every blast shard in inFamous (and also take a stab at several missing platinums) would make that premium tear a lot more enticing to me.

Not long before the extended service launches in Japan, a week? It will be interesting to see what else is added beyond the confirmed list. Ghost of Tsushima on PS5 seems to still sell for fifty quid, so the value in the expanded tiers seems to be there for me, though that is helped by being a new PS5 owner and not having purchased any games for it yet. The more content, the better though. I have no issue with the games being outside their release window, so long as there is a selection of high quality content.

Apparently Syphon Filter developers have confirmed trophies in their PS1 game on Plus Premium.

No link as on phone, but I'm sure we'll know all the detail in a few days when the service launches in Asia, even if Sony are doing their best to keep as many details as possible secret from us!

The more I think about this sevice though, the more I realise it's value for me. I've had my PS5 for less than two months and haven't yet had the chance to invest much time or money in to it. I'm happy to play older titles, so long as the quality is there. For the price of Gran Turismo, I can get access to most of the major releases from the launch window of PS5? Yeah, that's a good deal for me. Had I been buying each major new release since launch, it might be a very different story.

The silly neighbourhood vegetable.
