Cheers mate. Just thought I'd pop back for a bit over Christmas, for old time's sake.

Sounds good - I've been tempted by some rum lately, might try and seek that one out.

Whats wrong with JD though?

Nothing i love it but its not a whiskey.

It is actually a whiskey, just produced in a different way with different grains. However once its been produced it remains in that form and nothing is added so it still classes as a whiskey.

Southern Comfort on the other hand is a liquer with a Bourbon Whiskey base much like Glavya and Drambuie are liquors with a Scotch base.

I went to the JD distillery last year as part of a prize for a promotion we ran at work, was amazing. The smell of the fermenting grains is enough to knock you out. Was particularly impressed that everything is done on site, from the production of the whiskey, to the production of the barrels its stored in all the way to the bottling. Amazing. Lynchburg is a beautiful place too and surprisingly a dry county! You can only buy limited edition JD bottles in the entire county!

For all those anti-JD people (Seems to have a bad vibe cos its a bit of a 'My First Whiskey' and a typical pissed teenagers drink) its worth trying Gentlemen Jack and Single Barrel which both have more developed, interesting tastes (and suitably bigger pricetags).

I should be getting one or two new bottles tomorrow, if I dropped the hints successfully. I'll wait to see what I get, then post up some details of what I've been drinking recently.

I got a lovely minis four pack from one of my friends today, consisting of Glen Moray, The Glenlivet 12yr old, The Glenlivet French Oak Reserve 15yr old (I'm looking forward to that!), and Arbelour 10yr old. Not bad at all!

My brother just returned from the shop with a bottle of this:

Now, I'm not a Rum drinker, but this stuff is delicious! :D
You really get the Vanilla on the nose right away, followed by Cinnamon.
Then the sweetness of the limes comes in and you get a proper Butterscotch/Toffee smell.
Then you taste it and get Cinnamon, Star Anise and Vanilla pod - Followed heartily by a WHACK of Sweet Rum.

And, funnily enough, the after taste is like... like Drumstick lollies! :D
It also Beads quite well - although the beads are a bit fast - on the walls of my Whisky glass.

I'm going to enjoy necking the rest of that bottle with him over the next few days. Image

i have some of this too. amazing stuff. check the inner label when its finished for a nekkid lass

Falsey, that Bowmore you gave me is lovely. It's got a real smokey taste to it, very much like Talisker, and a real heavy, woody feeling to it. There's a hint of something s bit sweeter in there too, but no more than a hint, because that smokey taste soon drives the whole lot home, really is a great treat. I was sitting down last night with a glass of that accompanying me through Die Hard. Sublime way to end a Christmas Day.

I tried a shot of Glenlivet at my local pub the other night. I must say, it was superb. Quite sweet/honeyed but also dark/heavy (if you know what i mean) and lingers beautifully. Don't know what type it was, as i know they do a few, but it was in a green bottle with a cream label. Definitely my favourite so far - nicer than the Dalwhinnie 15 year old. and probably a lot cheaper. Will be next one i buy.

I received a bottle of Ballantine's Finest Blended Whisky in the post today for my birthday! (*Taps nose* ;))

It scored 96/100 in the Whisky Bible!
And Won "Best Non-Age Specific Blend of the Year" !
So it's got to be good stuff! :D

I'm going to crack it open nearer 6pm and give it a taste :D
Cannot wait.

There's definitely a few good blends - after all blended has been around for far longer than single malts, (as a product to drink). I particularly like bnj and hankey bannister. I'll have to try some of this ballantines though. Have a good evening !!
