Did anyone ever stop to fight him instead of running away? You'd get cool power ups, the ultimate one was, I think, a pack that held up to four first-aid sprays in one slot - was there anything after that?

It was annoying, because sometimes you'd beat him and get nothing - you had to know where and when to bother...

Yeah, second run through I fought him, dropped some cool stuff.

When playing RE, have you ever thought "Man, I could do with a candle being next to me!"?

Well... if you have, then you're covered. Amazon is selling a "Resident Evil Official 4D Candle", which is "horror scented" and "enhances gaming experience".

Blimey. Only ten quid, too.

I start backing up, suddenly, BOOM, strawberry floating door behind me bursts open, now I'm trapped with 3 of them. I nearly shat myself. Only this game could make 3 slow moving, shambling undead such a strawberry floating nightmare. Playing this on hard is brutal

Never really struggled on any difficulty. But this is the one game I've always been really good at. Can't wait for Tuesday

I've seven pre-ordered on my X1 since Jan 1st. It was a placeholder download (100mb) but with this out in less than a week I hope it doesn't end up downloading at midnight of release. Very strange for the X1 to only have a placeholder under 2weeks from launch let alone 6 days. :x

Survival horror gaming not scary enough for you? Well, how about playing Resident Evil for real?

Disclaimer: I would not do this. I'd be bricking it.

With REmake 2 coming up and there being a steam sale on I'm thinking of going through the series and filling gaps. I know people hate RE6 but out of the 3 main stories are any of them worth a punt? I've heard good things about Leon's while hearing that the Chris story is awful.

I really enjoyed Resi 6. It unashamedly goes full on, big budget, summer blockbuster action movie. Leon's campaign is definitely the best and most "traditional" and Chris' is the most shooter action-oriented and definitely not awful. "Worst" of the three campaigns is easily the one for the guy whose name I can't even remember because he's so strawberry floating boring and generic and is predictably voiced by Troy Baker. The gameplay of his campaign is good but I felt his melee-focused combat wasn't as fully realised as it should have been. Ada's campaign is really good but I'd recommend doing that one last since it spoils some plot points in the other campaigns.

This video does a good job explaining why I loved the game so much.

Leons is good for the first 2 chapters and after that it gooseberry fools itself. 6 is a bad game. I had fun playing it with Jazzem a year ago because we poked fun at it, but it is a bad game.

The biggest problem I had with the Sherry campaign was that at one point it had a forced stealth section where getting caught by the guards was a fail, and yet the game had literally no stealth mechanics, even in that section.

I can only recommend playing RE6 if you're going to do so in co-op or if you're just interested in tackling the mercenaries mode (you might have to unlock that by completing the game though, I can't remember). The combat is surprisingly fun, especially with the mobility options you have access to, but the encounter design in the campaigns just doesn't take full advantage of what that core gameplay offers. Like with most games, co-op banter can make a lot of the tedium tolerable, but even that isn't enough to overcome the slog of the game's length. I was already getting tired of it by the third campaign, and then you unlock a fourth which I forced myself through for completionist's sake. The story is a load of bollocks, often in the best way, but I can't imagine anyone feeling like they missed out on some integral chapter of Resident Evil by skipping it or reading a synopsis.

I don't understand why people overwhelmingly consider it a travesty, but I can't really call it good either.

I couldn’t finish re6 because it was so BORING! There was none of the tension from re4 - perhaps the re4 formula played itself out, with everyone and their dog doing over-the-shoulder aiming? Re5 really pushed my patience and I had none left for re6. Good job re7 did a refresh, and remake2 (or re2make?) looks like it puts together the best of all the previous titles.

tbh I enjoyed Resi 6 more than my most recent playthrough of Resi 4.

I agree it’s aged badly, but re4 was seminal at the time, whereas re6 was only ever mediocre... not that you can’t like whatever you want :-)

Picked up RE6 in the Steam sale a couple of years back. Played it for a couple of hours before never returning to it. Dire game.

It wasn’t just that it played bad, it looked bad. Wasn’t it just the re5 engine again?

It's looks didn't bother me so much, but yes by even the standard of the time it's a comparatively ugly game.

After recently playing through Village I've decided to go back and play through REmake, because despite owning and playing all the mainline entries on release, I've never actually completed the original! In fact, I've never got particularly far into the game at all. (6 is the only other one I didn't complete but that was because it was rubbish).

I've had two failed attempts this week where I've died early on due to stupidity, once when trying to get past the dogs while conserving my ammo, and another in the ceiling trap room because I misremembered that Barry was going to save me at the last minute

I'm finding the game stresses me out for some reason. The inventory fills up really quickly and the first item box takes a little bit of time to get to. I want to go and pick up herbs etc. I've come across to put in the item box, but the door to the room breaks after about 3 tries which is a pain. Because I'm not using a guide I don't know when I need to be carrying certain key items, which normally would be fine because I don't mind backtracking, but I've been spoiled in the past about zombies coming back as Crimson Heads so I want to minimise backtracking as much as possible. Also, I'm not sure which zombies are worth burning and don't really want to be wasting inventory slots on the kerosene anyway.

Basically I need to stop worrying about playing the game efficienctly and just enjoy my first playthrough. It's very weird because I can't think of any other game where I've got worked up about stuff like this before.

In the ceiling trap room, try and open both doors if you want Barry to sort you out.
