Buy most of the wife's undercrackers from there so that's a disappointment. Back to the old granny pants for you, my dear!

Rumours of Sunday shopping hours being extended for a year from July to boost the economy.

Great news if true, as it'll never go back once it starts. Sunday is a terrible day to do anything so having more options is great.

Yeah, Sunday trading laws are ridiculous and old fashioned. Why can't I buy anything before 11? Because reasons, that's why.

As someone in Scotland I always thought that Sunday trading law was daft and just based on silly old-school values so it seemed daft it was still even a thing.

I think it was due to a combination of A) religion and B) ‘everyone’ getting a break/day off. Not exactly an issue here in 2020, though...

Last time they tried it the SNP went utterly ballistic about how England and Wales getting rid of Sunday trading laws would have a negative impact on Scottish workers, wonder if they'll still be against it.

Any rationale rooted in religious tradition can get to strawberry float, but there does need to be protection for people who could end up having to work even more unsociable hours.

They suspended them during the Olympics and Paralympics and then it went back.

But hopefully this time it'll be killed off for good.

I don’t even understand the weekday hours for the high street, 9 until 17:30? Most people are at work in those hours which makes Amazon etc more appealing. In Sweden they open 10am until 21:00 weekdays, which makes popping into the shops a bit more manageable and impulsive.

I’ve always wondered about this, it must cost more to be open in the week than you make, what’s the point.

It seems it would be more successful to be open say midday to 9pm or something.

Look my magic imaginary sky friend says we should not shop on Sunday morning because we should go to the stone building and put money in a tray for the old men. Don't take this away from me!!!!!

Imagine the pious facebook rants we're going to get when they hear shopping on Sundays will be allowed. I can't wait.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

The way Curry’s PC World appears to be treating customers at the moment I wouldn’t be surprised if people never went back and they went under. Loads of complaints on social media and in the press.

Isn't that pretty much normal anyway?

Back when I worked there as a Technician I tried to flex the internal rules as much as possible, though that didn't stop people coming in with 11 month old laptops and demanding brand new replacements because they were running slow or they had closed the lid whilst a pen was on the keyboard and had smashed the screen the screen had spontaneously cracked completely of its own accord.

From being on the internal side of it I always take complaints about Currys/PC World with a pinch of salt. So many people who came in for refunds/exchanges had zero proof of purchase because they paid in cash and lost the receipt but that was everyone's fault but theirs.

I noticed in Japan that shops are open as late as 7 and just kind of close whenever they get bored, with lots of 24hr places as well. Because nobody ever is going to leave work to got to the shops there or fail to arrive at work 2 hours early. Especially seeing as you can buy almost anything from a vending machine, whether it's beetles or underwear.

On the continent it tends to be 6pm, though in France it tends to be just whenever they feel like it (seems like that sometimes anyways).
