You'll have to ask family and friends to start sending you some instead.

Fashion retailer Boohoo has bought the Debenhams brand and website for £55m.

However, it will not take on any of the firm's remaining 118 High Street stores or its workforce.

Boohoo said it was a "transformational deal" and a "huge step". But the deal means that up to 12,000 jobs at the department store chain are set to go.

The 242-year-old Debenhams chain is already in the process of closing down, after administrators failed to secure a rescue deal for the business.

It's been a long time coming.

Why have they been allowed to scoop up the company but not the staff that actually make the company work?

We'll buy the brand and the name but bugger the staff and the buildings, which rubs me up the wrong way.
Kinda wish old Ashley snapped up Debenhams, as whilst he's all sorts of shady some jobs will be saved.

The actual Debenhams business is being closed down. The administrators jobs is to wind the company down by raising the most money possible to pay off outstanding creditors. So they are carving up what they can and raising whatever money possible.

They will have tried to find a buyer for the business before this stage but no one wanted it.

As an aside, the company I used for my wedding went bust last month, taking lots of people's wedding deposits with them: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-b ... m-55437629

We were contacted by someone running a social media campaign (as we had been tagged in Monsoon related posts for our wedding) against them who believes they have simply closed down the business to cash in a load of money as well as clearing all their debts and simply going to start a new company post pandemic when things start up again. Very dodgy business.

Looks like a repeat of what happened to Debenhams.

Can't say i've ever been much of a fan for buying clothes online, i do it sometimes with Uniqlo, but that's only because i know their sizing and so i know anything i get will fit fine. I much prefer to actually go in a shop, and if necessary, try the item on first.

I've bought most of my clothes online for years and I can't remember the last time I had an issue with fit. I primarily use Next and Thread and find them very consistent with their sizes being as expected.

The only exception would be some casual shirts I got last year, as finding some that were a style I liked but also not baggy around the waist was impossible - so I just took them to a seamstress and was very happy with the result.
