Marks & Spencer sales continue to fall

"What we are doing is making sure we protect the magic of M&S," he said.

However, he said the retailer was "continuing to review" its store closure programme and did not rule out further closures, especially as one-third of its business would be online in future.

Apart from lunchtime, the problem M&S now faces in its food halls is that other supermarkets have gradually muscled in on its turf, the products that once set them apart now on an equal footing to the competition. Whereas once before if you wanted a fancy salad bowl and good quality pizza you had to go to M&S, now that's in the vast majority of supermarkets. And that's repeated across the product range.

In positive news "Drive-Thru" coffee shops appear to be booming, two are currently under construction in my city.

American Starbucks and now American-owned Costa (now part of the Coca-Cola corporation)seem to be the only ones in the game though.

I wonder if this will become an increasing trend following Brexit, British household names either failing or being sold out to American megacorporations.

Yeah there's another one of these just opened in Liverpool.

Can't stand those bloody drive through places. If you happen to be one of the people actually in the shop you get treated as a second class citizen whilst they serve all the people in cars!

An area just outside our city centre was recently redeveloped complete with a TGI Fridays and Papa John's.

It was great to see the the dilapidated Victorian terraces finally bulldozed, but most complaints seem to be that it now looks like an American strip mall totally out of keeping with the area.

Brighton Marina recently developed a new area for 5 restaurants. Those plots ended up being taken by TGI Fridays, Five Guys, Bella Italia, Las Iguanas and a Brazilian restaurant that I can't remember the name of which has already closed down.

This frustrates me a little because the restaurant area already caters for Italian and American food with Zizzy and Prezzo, American with Coast to Coast and Frankie and Benny's. There's also a Wetherspoons, an Indian joint and a Cafe Rouge. Couldn't one of the plots have been a Caribbean place, or Thai cuisine? You know, stuff that isn't already catered for.

We have a new Coast2Coast and Frankie & Benny's and neither seem to struggle for customers.

They did build some domestic units, yeah

How am I, the person who can afford the luxury of taking my time to sit and enjoy a beverage in comfort, supposed to be the povvo in this situation?

There's quite a nice Thai place near Alum Chine.

EDIT: I thought you said Bournemouth. There has been almost the same development there at the front.
