That's a shame about warehouse and oasis, they do decent women's clothes that aren't designer but are fancier than H&M etc - like if you want something to wear to a party or for work.

I read Debenhams looks likely to be saved again, made deals with the landlords, with 10 or so closing.

This virus could literally wipe out half the remaining high street looking at the rest that are in trouble.

The high street is going through it's painful, protracted death throes. Covid19 looks set to put some businesses down for good it seems. Which is obviously terrible for the people involved in them, but it would appear a fundamental shake up of the retail industry is going to have to take place. I mean, shops are never going to totally disappear but things are going to need to be very different when we come out the other side of this.

John Lewis have just furloughed 14,000 staff & Primark with 68,000. I know we are quick to slate the government & there are issues with a lot of things they’ve done or introduced but the furlough payments seem brilliant. Has any other country done this? I know America had the 2k a month check but not sure if that’s even happened yet.

Yeah, lots of countries are doing iy-I've read about schemes in France, Australia, Denmark and Sweden. I'm sure most of the countries heavily hit are doing it in some form.

Aren't the American Stimulus checks a one off?
I think they've extended unemployment benefits to last a bit longer, but I don't think they've got anything like the Furlough scheme to encourage employers to keep people do they?

No, which is why 22 million Americans applied for unemployment benefits in the last month. That one off cheque can also be immediately seized by a person's bank to pay against any debts they may have, instead of simply allowing that person to use it to pay for rent or food.

Denmark's scheme also only pays a company the 75% of an employee's wage if the company tops up the rest, which is unfortunately entirely optional here.

The one off cheques are to help the economy not individuals, which is why banks can seize against debt.

The usual suspects are back in the spot light.

The owner of High Street restaurant chains Cafe Rouge and Bella Italia has filed intent to appoint administrators at the High Court.

Owner Casual Dining Group, whose brands also include the Las Iguanas chain, employs about 6,000 people.

The company said the move would give it ten days breathing space to consider "all options" for restructuring.

Restaurants have been hit hard after shutting their doors in March as part of Britain's virus lockdown.

Earlier on Monday, Casual Dining Group said that it is working with advisers from corporate finance firm AlixPartners over a potential restructuring programme.

A Casual Dining Group spokeswoman said: "As is widely acknowledged, this is an unprecedented situation for our industry and, like many other companies across the UK, the directors of Casual Dining Group are working closely with our advisers as we consider our next steps.

"These notifications are a prudent measure in light of the company's position and the wider situation."

Terrible restaurant which served me one of the worst croque monsieurs I've ever eaten a few years ago.

They did a damn fine steak baguette in the one I used to go to that's all I can say.
