I'm shocked at this. I'm certain they paid for some of the red mall upgrades too when it was re-designed, it's the focal point of that end. Can't see anything filling it,

Kinda gutted it’s gone, I always tried to make an effort to buy something in there to try and keep it going. How they’re going to fill that space is anyone’s guess.

Same way they fill up every empty retail space.

Discount clothes and card shops.

Aye but it’s a fair size though, and it’s...I can’t describe it very well but the unit kinda bookends one quadrant of the centre, it would be impossible to chop up like that.

And some of the floors aren't even accessible without going through the rest of it.

The only way you could chop it up is to basically turn the unit into a shopping centre within a shopping centre, which would cost an absolute fortune to do.

Honestly not going to be surprised if House of Fraser in there follows, which is an even bigger unit, and possibly the biggest space in there besides the Odeon.

Poundstretcher in trouble. Only been in one a couple of times. It felt like B and M + Home Bargains but with less variety and bargains.

Clearly there are too many shops with Pound in the name!

BBC had a weekly documentary on them a couple of years ago. The father is a bit stuck in his ways and isn’t really open to change and it’s killing the business.

Some very good bargains to be had in there though. I’ve bought major brands for between 70-80% off their RRP. Heinz organic beans for 50p a can instead of £1.10, that type of thing.

I'm still ashamed of the time last year when a Poundshop opened on Redcar High Street and there were literally queues down the street on opening morning for it.

For a strawberry floating Pound shop!
