Really shocked by that, the Grand Central redevelopment has been a major improvement to Brum city centre.

I hope the nearby Kitty Cafe doesn't end up closing too. :(

No gooseberry fool.

When i needed batteries, i had to wait outside and was evenually let in by someone wearing PPE who then proceeded to lock the door behind me.

John Lewis, Boots, Burger King...another rough day.

Personally disappointed at the closure of the Croydon John Lewis, as that entire stretch of road (John Lewis, Currys PC World, Sainsbury’s and IKEA) was generally ideal (apart from the traffic).

Sometimes it’s just nice to get out of the house and physically look at a product (such as an appliance or sofa) rather than buying it blindly online and that’s now becoming increasingly difficult.

John Lewis was coming when you look into it, maybe not
Now but if they didn’t turn around in the next year or so - Covids just sped it up. The new chiefs been hired to make decisions like this to turn it around horrible but needed.

The Birmingham one baffles me it was ever opened, it was a destination centre, relying on you either needing to go there or someone off a train making a purchase (unlikely). Considering the bullring is around the corner too.

The travel stores in airports are surely nothing more than vanity too.

Terrific loss of jobs though. Burger King surprises me, but then the one in my town is open later than everyone else but always seems empty all day. Shame as I think their burgers are much better than McDonalds

Burger King's main problem for me is that they are way too expensive now for what you get. For the same price or just a bit more, you can get much better quality Burger meal elsewhere.

Been a while since I had a good Burger King meal. I only go there when I have a voucher (like once a year) and the past two times the burgers have been very dry. Very much feels like you’re eating something that’s worth the £1.99 paid...

Yep it’s actually a really good app. I refuse to buy off the full price menu now because of it  you just feel ripped off without it.

Would be nice to see the Kitty Cafe move out of Grand Central to somewhere where the cats could actually get natural light, though. The horrid little corner it's shoved up into is a dreadful location for it.

Not voluntarily had a Burger King in years - every one of them I've had in the last few years has been circumstantial. Service stations or the only not-utter-ditch-tier eatery at a holiday park that my band were playing at.

Saying that, the last time I ate one, I was pissed out of my face after a show, surrounded by dreg-ends at a Butlins. Got halfway through the burger and went "guess I don't really like Burger King", binned it and went back to the accommodation to sleep. There's just something weird about the way the burgers taste and over the years it feels like that weirdness has become the predominant flavour.

I'd agree with this. Always find their overall selection of burgers and sides better than McDonald's stuff these days.

I do love a Bacon Double XL, I just can't justify the pricetag.

Also their hash brown bites are the tits.

Yep they have always been expensive, and as said above compared to sitting in somewhere else or another restaurant they fail in the quality standards. But damn if that Bacon Double XL isn't tasty

I've noticed their prices are different depending on where you are, must be the franchise effect, or at least used to be on items like hamburgers and such.

Yeah, i suspect a lot of their target audience would generally end up in Selfridges instead.

I think they must of had an incentive to come in, either the store kit out was free or a free period of rent and something.

Similar to Debenhams in new builds over the past two decades I think they got deals because the idea was they’d draw people to the centre

I guess already having a well-established John Lewis so nearby in middle-class-ville Solihull didn’t really help the Birmingham store.

Problem solved for the next month. Half-price Whoppers, because the cheeky bastards are going to exploit the “Eat out” scheme to make the government pay half of your takeaway bill. Really not what it was aiming for.

I've not been to Brum since I worked at Railtrack and had to go to the mailbox once a week to drop off a load of data analysis but I used to quite like the Palisades.
