I don't recall ever hearing about or seeing a Peacocks shop. I assumed they must be a small/niche chain, but they've actually got hundreds of stores. Not sure how that one's passed me by. If all three of those chains are at risk though, that's a huge number of jobs.

Harvester owner consulting on job cuts

Mitchells & Butlers, the pubs and restaurants group, has begun redundancy consultations with a number of staff as it struggles with the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

M&B, whose chains include Harvester and All Bar One, has about 1,700 pubs and restaurants and 44,000 employees.

It has not yet disclosed how many jobs are at risk.

A spokesperson for the company described it as "a difficult and regrettable decision

By the time all the rules are lifted we’ll have nothing left to do except go to McDonald’s or a Supermarket.

We used to joke around with the 'no fun allowed' meme, but now it's becoming scarily accurate.

Marstons to cut up to 2,150 furloughed jobs

Pub and brewery group Marstons says it will axe up to 2,150 furloughed jobs following new restrictions to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

The company said since the first lockdown was lifted, 10,000 of its employees had returned to work.

But Marstons said new measures such as the 10pm curfew and restrictions in Liverpool mean 2,150 roles are going to be impacted.

The current wage subsidy scheme expires at the end of this month.

It is being replaced by the Job Support Scheme which will top-up wages for employees who have not been able to return to work full-time because of the coronavirus

It gets better......

Wetherspoon boss Tim Martin jokes he could be 'like Nelson Mandela' and go to jail in protest at 10pm curfew as he blasts PM's Covid plan and reveals his pub chain suffered £105million losses

Like Mitchells & Butlers, if JD Wetherspoon were to go belly up the damage would be quite dramatic. According to Wikipedia he employs 43,000 staff.

Speaking as a Former Spoons manager who has met him though he is an utter bellend who might employee a lot of staff but he treats them all like dirt and is as previously stated an utter bellend.

Coronavirus drives shop closures to new record

A record number of shops closed on UK high streets during the first half of this year as the coronavirus lockdown hit many stores hard, data shows.

Some 11,120 chain store outlets shut between January and June, according to research by the Local Data Company and accountancy firm PwC.

Although more than 5,000 shops opened during the same period it was not enough to fill the gaps, resulting in a net decline of 6,001 stores.

The final total could even be higher.

Researchers did not count outlets that had yet to reopen after the coronavirus lockdown ended. Many never will.

The data includes shops, hospitality chains, and services such as post offices and banks, but it does not include small independent businesses.
