Yes! Desperados is the one. Is it an RTS? Or is in a different genre?

I thought it was more of a puzzle game version of cannon fodder if that makes any sense? It was certainly more a game played at a slow pace than most RTS games where speed is fairly important unless you want to get rolled over. Its a rather odd game to pigeon hole though as it straddles concepts nicely.

It was like Commandos?

Its more of a RTT than an RTS, the difference being it requires only Tactics rather than Strategy to play.

I tried to play the demo to death, but I couldn't complete it, freaking loved it though.

Desperados, a great game!

I don't know how I missed the thread, but it's good to see Herbi showing some RTS love.

As a genre they are great, but only on PC thus far. I liked the idea of Ubi's new console RTS which responds to voice commands (End Wars I think it's called), and by all accounts Halo Wars has decent controls, but you really need a mouse for games like these.

Get downloading gents :D
Red Alert is probably my favorite PC game ever. Transport Tycoon runs it close though.

Shame it won't run on Vista, unless I'm missing some obvious solution.

Has anyone played Darwinia? I downloaded the demo a while ago, I thought it was fabulous, totally refreshing game to play. I'll definately try and pick it up somewhere.

I'm disgusted by the lack of Myth II love in this thread. :(

Was that a rip off of Commandos?

Despite being built for kids, I had this as a kid and it was actually a really fantastic RTS.

I had one of the Army Men games and loved it. It was so charming to wage war in some kid's bedroom.

More of a western themed reskin by the same devs... I think.

You know, I bought it retail to try and show some support for Introversion, but I don't think I've ever actually installed the full thing, only the demo. Didn't really click with it, though I LOVED Uplink and Defcon to pieces.

For the record, all Introversion's titles are available on Steam.

Has nobody mentioned that the X360 version of Supreme Commander is out this Friday? I thought at least a few of you would be interested in seeing how well it's translated to a controller.

I really liked the demo of Darwinia but never found a retail version out here. :( Apparently they took out the system where you drew the symbol for what you wanted to build instead of pushing buttons, I thought that kind of sucks.

Also anyone else like Defcon, it's by the same developer I believe, and it's just so simple yet so much fun.

Also another question, I remember years and years ago, I had a game which I believe was turn based strategy, where you commanded a bunch of insects over maps that were inside homes, like in kids rooms, in bathrooms etc. I remember ants were general infantry, wasps were air units, but I have no idea what the name is. This would have been some time around 1998, any ideas what it might be?
