PostThe RTS Bunker
by Captain Kinopio » Thu Aug 28, 2008 2:37 pm

Having witnessed the vast majority of this forums distaste for the genre I decided it was necessary for us few RTS fans to get together and wait for the apocalypse, after which we can all guide our little tanks around free from the prejudices of this forum.

Our first order of business is to induct members into the bunker, before you are allowed in you must bring with you;

Rations for surviving the holocaust
Your favorite RTS platform
Most treasured RTS
Hopes and dreams for the future of the genre
Best weapon for destroying the RTS hating infidels

Once inducted into the bunker, our number will then begin doling out recommendations of past RTS we may have missed, discussing upcoming RTS games, and deciding upon what will be hailed as the greatest RTS ever and our new Lord and Savior once the apocalypse has died down a bit.
Hopefully, providing enough people are inducted into the bunker we may be able to expand our territory into Online gaming and organize some excursions in which we can team build through friendly competition

Reccomendations
Total Annihilation
C&C Red Alert

C&C Red Alert 3 - PC/360 - ???

You'll each find in your welcome packs a pm flare. This can only be used once but it allows you to signal to your lost comrades the bunkers whereabouts.

Mocky, you heard of the Open Source Total Annihalation game? It's called Spring TA, I need to download it.

Some of the maps are amazing, and it's just Total Anihalation with the ability to make your own maps. Fantastic it is.

I actually just meant so that you'd have to think up a rank beginning with Z. I don't even know if he likes the RTS genre. 8-)

I love RTS games even though I'm rubbish at them (I still feel I could have won WW2 within 3 years if I'd been in charge though.).

Rations for surviving the holocaust

Baked Beans and Bread (cheese as well for a few weeks until it goes off).

Your favorite RTS platform

PC

Most treasured RTS

Total Annihilation

Hopes and dreams for the future of the genre

That the XBox 720 has Mouse/Keyboard support and enough memory to do a nice large map.

Best weapon for destroying the RTS hating infidels

The nuclear weapon from Civilisation Revolution.

Ah good, crispy has arrived. When typing this up and wondering if it was going to be a massive failure you were one of the people I was banking on joining our ranks.
Welcome Private Peter Crisp!

Also I'm embarrassed to say I've never heard of Total Annihilation

Go and download it, it's open source TA and perfectly legal.

We could get some games going once in a while maybe.

As RTS PC snobs can we all point and laugh at Halo Wars?

I'm not, from what I've seen, I think it looks a bit ropey.
Also the mass of units in there seem to be are not a good sign for a console RTS, without a mouse and keyboard things could get messy, LOTR:BFME taught us that.

Cheers StayingDead, I'll get to it.

Doesn't the 360 already have USB keyboard support and a fair amount of RAM?

I can't really claim to be an RTS buff. But I have at least heard of Total Annihilation. (Infact, I think I still have a copy around here someplace).

But I did like Dune 2000 and MechCommander Gold.

And Cannon Fodder and Syndicate.

Not really a fan of the more traditional RTS games though.

The 360 version of Command and Conquer starts to chug badly when in skirmish games against a CPU who insists on building crap loads of poxy blokes so the extra Ram would be nice. I would also like a map editor just to give it a whirl.
