I've always wanted an excuse to take lots of drugs.

Ironically, not a phrase a certified adjudicator will say when I finish my run.

Managed my first Half Marathon of the year yesterday. Not really one for distance and only ever done 2 timed ones before and one of them was 2006.

The last one I did (June 2020) I scuffed past 2 hours (and 1 minute I think) my legs had no energy and I struggled to finish. I wanted to get under 2 hours so I was pleased to set off yesterday at a slower pace but one that I could maintain for pretty much the whole way. My time was 1:50:44 which I am very pleased with and nearly 10 minutes better than my target. I actually carried on to 22k and I was shocked to find that my legs still had life in them.

Ache a lot today though, I don’t know how anyone does Marathons and above, I couldn’t think of doing that again straight after.

New 5k PB yesterday. 21:22. Getting closer to that Holy Grail of a sub 20.

Well done, you're looking for 6.25 a mile to do that

Well done! Your 5K and HM times are almost identical to mine. I got a new 5k PB this week of 21:31 and my HM is also 1:50. I mostly focus on long distance though but after a couple of ultras in May and June I am going to work on speed for a HM in September.

How is GUCR training going?
I'm probably not doing quite enough miles but getting in lots of 20 mile long runs on a different canal and the legs are unusually niggle-free at the moment.
I think I need to just smash out a 6hr night run for a confidence boost. At the moment I get bored and head home after 20 miles of the same canal I've run a hundred times.

Knocked 5 minutes of my Half Marathon time with a 1:45:14 :msgreen:

Was originally just aiming for sub 1:50 but I set off at 1:45 pace and was able to hold it. Had to stop for a few road crossings and a lorry reversing up a drive at the end of the run, so I didn't quite sneak under 1:45. Still it was a great workout and a good indicator of base fitness improving.
