For my only half marathon I forget to tie the chip on at the start.... That was devastating.

Hard work and lots of training, started off run walk run and just went from there I don't think there is a big secret to running and there are no shortcuts

Has anyone here entered the ballot for the London Marathon?

Just got the email but instead of telling you if you're in or not, you now have to enter a code on their website, which has crashed. :fp:

Website is working now and as expected I didn't get in. Think the chance is only about 3%.

I didn't enter, I cant stand the thought of training again only to not race due to Covid as my first marathon is not going to be a virtual one

Another no here, I think that’s my fourth unsuccessful ballot attempt. Oh well, of all the years to miss out, it’s not a crushing disappointment.

At this point though any organised run is bound to feel special whether that’s Parkrun or the London marathon.

I did my first marathon the other day virtually and by myself. Decided to do a charity push as motivation. Do it!
Looking at your times, you posted t'other day, you would absolutely nail it anyways. How have you not ran 26 miles yet when your setting 2.5 hours for 20 miles?

When you set off in complete darkness, and on your return route you see the sun is comin up

Can wait until morning runs are in daylight again.

I just haven't really.

I just have it in my head my first marathon will be special, the crowd cheering and I will feel like an Olympic champion.
I still remember my first H/M it was torrential rain, I was soaking head to toe and I felt like such a bad ass on the last 5K coming back into the city centre, I felt like such a champion. That's the feeling I want.

Saying that if this Covid stuff doesn't go away then I think my hand may be forced.

Afternoon, how is everyone doing?

Decided to try a complete a long run this morning. Worked out a nice route, packed my race-pack with supplies, snacks etc.

Left my house about 7am. 50 yards later I tripped over nothing in the road, fell and grazed my knee. Blood started oozing from the scrapes. Picked myself up off the road to find I had also pulled my hamstring. Limped for 1/2 mile around my block to see if I could 'run it off' before I decided to take the 'walk of shame' home.

Good times.

I'm on the last week of C25k but I've picked up a bit of a niggle on my left ankle so I've stopped running to see if it gets better. It has been sore for a week now so not sure if it's a sprain or something worse.

The discomfort is on my ankle and outside of my foot.

I've been really enjoying the program. Can't believe I'm running for 30 minutes without stopping.

When you complete your first decent run without stopping, it's a great moment. My milestone was when I finally managed exactly 4 miles without stopping, it was a great motivator.

Now it's light at 6am, I should be able to do my favourite tough route a few times a week, as its along a narrow country lane so if you have an accident in the dark, nobody is going to find you for a long time. It's just under 5 miles of shallow climbs, flat bits, off-cambered turns, steep climbs, long downhill bits for speed. Really really good for mixing up while being out, you cnat do any decent speed due to the steep parts, but its amazing for losing weight and getting really fit.

Moved house recently so finding some new routes which is good fun, got a couple of good 5k routes already. I didn't move too far so I can still reach a couple of the big parks for longer runs as well, but got a slight pain in my achilles on my last run so taking it easy for now.

There's talk about doing a virtual 5k race at work, and it's quite hilly where I live. How much of a dick would I be if I choose the route that was 95% downhill (about a 90m drop over the distance)?

It kind of feels like cheating, but at the same time my only other option would be to include a lot of uphill which is putting me at a disadvantage.

I actually want to see how fast I can do various distances this year, but again I wouldn't consider this a 'true' reflection of my time, but it could be an interesting exercise anyway.

You may as well go full Armstrong and dope up if you're going to do that
