Oh good grief, running in the dark is so miserable. It's bad enough that you can't see properly (my route has no lights, so it's a head torch job), but then add rain in, and you can see about 2ft in front with the rain being lit up like the millennium falcon going in to hyperspace. Can't tell where you are, and think you're further on than you really are. Oh great, not far to go on this bit....wait, I'm not even on that bit yet, nooooooo.

Ordered my parkrun 50 milestone t-shirt, almost two years after my 50th parkrun.

Is anyone doing Manchester half / marathon tomorrow?

Credit to anyone who is doing a half marathon or marathon! I am well behind my target for October and started myself off today with a 10k. I had bad cramp a couple of nights ago, so I'm not sure whether that was a smart move or not, but I guess I shall find out. Another 10k tomorrow will bring me back on track for my monthly goal of 60k. So far I have managed to avoid any runs in horrible winter weather, but it is only a matter of time.

Running in bad weather is character building. How would you cope with a race if you hadn't ran in wind and rain. I actually prefer running in the cold to the heat. I don't mind rain but do hate wind.

Sure, last winter I went out in heavy wind and rain and the experience was that bad that I didn't pick running up again for over six months. This year though, I've massively increased my running and fitness and resolve as a result. I've been out in showers, but heavy rain and wind is going to be tough. Like you say, character building though. I'm much more up for the challenge this year than I have been previously. Time will tell!

I signed up for a couple of races, but due to covid cancellation for one and rescheduling clash for another, I haven't actually made it to one yet. At some point I may well do.

The guy who got me started with running always said it's the miles you do when you don't feel like it that really count, which is something that always keeps me motivated to get out even if it's pissing down. If it was easy every time, you wouldn't try as hard.

That is so true, if you don't push through when it's hard how would you be able to deal with that if it happens in a race

Have been busy with work the last few weeks, but slipped in a 5k after I finished at 4pm today. Achieved another personal best at 24:50. I've now managed to set PBs for 1, 3 and 5k at a pace below 5 minutes per km. My goal is to get to that pace for 10k, but for now I'm pretty happy with my new 5k best. I could really feel the pace slipping away from me towards the end of the run!

First race in the Manchester cross country season today and my first race in almost two years. Great to be back. :toot:

My sciatica has come back forcing me to run less, its a real shame as my 5k times were coming down nicely and my fitness was way up but I have really lost it in the past three months :(

I haven't done much running either. Got a bit of pain just below my right knee the other week after running, I think it is 'runners knee' from looking online. Not too sure what's best in terms of when to run again or if I should be squatting etc at the gym. Don't want to make it worse but also want to get back out there and get running!

It's probably a lack of strength/Mobility somewhere in your body and it happens it manifests in that area. So the knee is likely the symptom but not the issue.

Also runners knee is a generic team and could be a multitude of different possibilities of what it could be.

I would say it's always best to go to a physio as they will spot what the issue is and help put you on the correct path.

Happy New Year fellow runners.

How is everyone and what’s the running plans for 2022?

After having a knee operation late summer, I’m currently on the rehab/getting back into it phase and definitely out of shape/lacking fitness after a few months of inactivity… and it’s hard getting it into again especially during the winter months.

I've been out of action running wise since mid November - first form being on holiday, then straight after injuring my chest muscles AGAIN which had me in pain for weeks. Had my first run the other morning, and it was just awful.

I got to 299 parkruns yesterday. Not sure what venue to pick for my 300th. The one ive been to most (about 130) was the first one i went to about 7 years ago, but since three other closer ones have opened up, and ive got about 30 at each of those. Ive already done 50 different venues, so my 2022 goal is to volunteer more. The closest is about 3km away, so i can get my run kms in by running there an back.

Really interested in the new Garmin Fenix 7, it’s very expensive so will have to justify it but fancy an upgrade to my forerunner 245.

I've slipped in four 3k runs this week after having two months out. I figure the coldest period has gone now, so I can start to build back to a routine. It hasn't been as hard getting back in to it as I expected, though I'll see how I feel after my first 10k :slol:
