Added two things to my running which seems to be helping so far.

Track & Sports Massage.

My 5k times are falling nicely at the moment. I have done a lot of runs so far this year too.

Track is such a Type 2 fun! I really dislike it whilst doing it but feel amazing afterwards. Using Garmin connect to see my lap times and see how close I get to keep and consistent time.

Need to incorporate more easy runs into my rotation. Should only be doing 2 max effort runs a week which I guess I am doing - Track and parkrun. Tues & Wed tend to be with the running group at 9mm which I can easily hold a conversation for 5-10km. I have thought of dropping to 10mm because most videos tell you that slow runs should be sloooow!

Sundays tend to be my long runs which fluctuate between quick and slow depending on if I am with anyone. I do struggle to run slow.

I think I also struggle to actually go slow on intended slower runs. But I also rarely do max effort either, nearly all of my runs are a similar pace/effort. Running slower does feel quite odd, but I guess the more I do it the easier it will get.

I've never been good at regulating my pace, it's always been close to having to stop all the time, but just below. Guy I uses to run with back when I started kept telling me to slow down but I couldn't do it.

Helps now that the route is endless ups and downs as I just naturally tackle different bits differently depending on how I'm feeling at the time.

No idea how I'm doing a the moment really, I don't have to stop at all these days which is something and I know strava has told me the really REALLY steep part on the way back has been quick a few times.

As long as the fat belly stays away, I'm happy.

It's just a passed a year since I last ran (4 days ago)

It has been a really tough year for me and I feel like my life purpose has been taken away from me but every night I'm doing my rehab trying to win the battle since I had my operation in April.

Normally I find something to motivate me whether it is a race or a new parkrun PB. I just like seeing improvement and seeing my stats change.

That sucks, are you getting better though even if slowly?

Progress is being made but it's very slow. Basically the operation I had released the tightness in my knee and they realigned my patellae. Because of this my leg is not used to the muscles being in this position which is the corect position so it has no strength as it's basically never been in this position before/for a long time.

My physio and consultant have no worries but I'm sure you know how it feels you don't really know it works until you can start running again.

When I had a knee so bad it hurt just to walk, I used an elliptical machine for about 6 months. Was great for keeping at least some level of fitness up. Rowing machine was really good for lungs too.

My issue at the moment is bending the knee as it hurts, I'm doing strength work to build it back up and I have I only just started doing some weight bearing stuff on one leg. I'm basically having to build my leg again!

Less than a week now until the Great North Run. Haven't been able to pace myself or train properly however, I have decided it will be too busy to go for a time and I am just going to enjoy the event.

Yeah that was pretty unpleasant in this heat.

I keep getting small injures and it's so demoralising. Pushed too hard at Parkrun on Saturday and my ankle hurts again. :(

Have been using the elliptical machine in the gym a bit, but not sure how good a substitute it is. Based on the HR monitor on the machine, my HR is about 110-120 using it, which I imagine is probably a bit too low.

My first Great North Run and it was a hot one! amazing support all the way to the end, I want to do it again!

Better time than expected, I wanted a sub 2 hour due to the heat and congestion but ended up getting 1:44:51 only 10 seconds off my Bristol Half time! This was including having to weave pretty much all the way and getting water at every station (every 2 miles). Super proud of myself as I had achilles pain too, I wanted a sprint finish and had loads of energy however, it was still busy at the end and had to settle for a slightly faster end.

Got a new 5k PB, took 11 seconds off my 2021 time of 20:55 and I am now down to 20:44, slowly edging to that holy grail of sub 20.

I hate running in the dark so much. The route I take always seems to take longer as I have no visibility beyond the reach of my chest torch (it's a country route with no street lighting). I think I'm at one point, then realise I'm not that far along. To cap it off this morning it started pissing down as I left the house, kept raining hard the entire time and then stopped about a minute from my house. Bastard!

Still feel a bit covidy even though I don't test positive, still managing to pull off some good times, I just ran 21:34 in my Carbon X2 which is a new record in those trainers. I do feel breathing becomes an issue after 2km and shouldn't probably be pushing it but I am liking these times.

Been a while since I’ve posted and after a couple of years out with knee surgeries the return to running continues.

12 months ago I was given the ok to resume running. In May I completed a 100 mile event (slowly) and last weekend I completed a 185 mile non-stop ultra event in 67 something hours (with 3 hours ish sleep).

I am definitely not running fit yet (it was a glorified hike to be fair) but good to see the knee stood up to the test. Unfortunately, due to some severe flooding on the route, I managed to get some severe blisters and currently laid up a week later with bandaged feet.

Two steps forward and one step back as always.

I'm so pleased for you.

I'm 6 month's since my knee arthroscopy and I'm starting to wonder if I will ever run again. I sometimes feel dead inside.
