Just signed up for my first ever Marathon. I couldn't get into London again so have decided to join some of my running club in Rome. My aim is just to finish a Marathon and so long as I am under 5 hours I will have a nice benchmark.

PLAY | Persona 3 Reloaded [3h]
WATCH | Ted Lasso S3, HiJack S1, Red Dwarf S4, Dexter S2
RACE | Chew Valley 10k (June), GNR (Sept), Cardiff Half (Oct)

You are selling yourself well short (or sandbagging and we've all done this). ;)

If you're running a 20-21 min 5k (Parkrun) then potentially (with training) you are looking at 3.30-3.45 marathon time.

I get that but I don't want to pressure myself and I want to enjoy my first marathon.

Managed to do my first race on the weekend since suffering with fatigue, it was a hard one too, called the Sodbury Slog. 80% off road through mud and streams for 10 miles. We did it in 1 hour 30 but suffering now.

I've not been out for a month now as I got ill and it took ages to shake it, then my chest muscle pains came back so today was the first day I could go out, and it was so shitty that I couldn't be arsed :fp:

Maybe Thursday or Friday

Did week 6 day 3 of couch to 5k and failed at the last 2 minutes of the 25. I felt like I was going to throw up and just had to drop to a walk :(

I did week 7 day 1 (also 25 minutes) and deliberately slowed my pace as much as I could bear, and I finished it ok, but my heart rate didn't really get up too much.

We'll see how it goes. It's all very frustrating as before covid and my nasty chest infection I was able to do a 5K in under 27 minutes. At current pace I'd be looking at 32+ minutes.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Go to 32:54 you can see me cross the line. Headband, Green and Back top, Black Shoes. Got a shout out from the voice over guy who mentions that i'm a parkrun ED.

W7D2 (25 minute run) done. My pace is still poor, at about 6.30m/km. Ideally I want that sub 6m/km.

Just got to keep doing it. Once I can do 30 minutes running we can focus on getting pace back. I also weigh about 12KG (~2 stone) more than when I was achieving those run times.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

So I was told yesterday I can run, wasn't expecting that at my physio appointment. (Not ran since August lasted year and had keyhole surgery on my knee in April)

I don't think I feel 100% like I used to, but maybe I never will do. The physio didn't seem concerned, guess I just need to give it a go and see how I get on.

The last 5-6 weeks have been the best I have felt and she said my strength is really good. Says as long as I maintain it and do the couch to 5k and basically don't go overboard I shouldn't make things worse.

Excellent news. Just take it steady and don't rush back and give yourself another injury.

First run in a month this morning, and my pace was a minute a mile slower :dread:
