For me 2019 started off well. I ran The Fox Ultra for the second time and 1hr 20m quicker than previously. However, my two races after that both ended as DNFs. The Omen 66.6 was a hot day and the hills destroyed my knees about 32 miles in. I then focused on hill training for the Dorset Ultra+ but completely underestimated how big and steep those hills would be, again my legs were destroyed. I called it a day at 28.5 miles.
I think I improved as a runner in 2019 even if the race results don't show it. My problem was lack of hill training and entering races that are slightly beyond my capabilities.
2019 (vs 2018)
Distance: 843 miles (+21)
Elevation: 101,000ft (+80,0000)
Goals for 2020:
- No DNFs. The Omen 66.6 is my main DNF risk as I only got halfway last year. Hopefully a year of training and experience will get me to the end this time.
- PB at The Fox (38.5 miles). It will be my 3rd run of this race and is a fairly easy trail course, so a good indicator of fitness. 7hr 18m is my PB, I'd like to be under 7hr this time.
- Run 100 miles (90 miles as the crow flies) in Escape From Meriden. This is probably my most unrealistic goal but on paper it sounds simple. My longest run is 10hrs and I was not moving fast at the end of that, so this may be another race where I bite off more than I can chew.
That's great, I find having Goals and something to work towards is such a great motivation.
You have some hefty challenges but if you train well and look after yourselve you can achieve anything.
2019 was awesome for me, took almost 20 minutes off from my HM PB fro. 1:48:something down to 1:28:48
5k PB lowered to 19:28
10k PB lowered to 40:48
2020 run my first marathon in Manchester sub 3 30, 9 want sub 19m 5k, sub 40 10k and sub 1:25 HM
if you believe, work hard and dont give in you can achieve anything
