Running goal 1 achieved this year a sub 19 minute 5K in 18:46 at Ferry Meadows Parkrun last weekend.

I feel I can go faster.

Does anyone have any recommendations for sites to find running events? After years of running 5ks, half marathons and marathons I’ve decided to focus on the half for 2022. Would love to work on my 5k time like Poshrule (that’s an amazing time) but I work every Saturday now so Parkrun isn’t an option. There are lots of sites with links to events but it just seems a little messy. Hoping to put together a little calendar of half marathons for the year and hopefully beat my seven year old 1hr 42 best. Would love to get under the 100 minute mark!

I find Facebook is good for searching for events.

What part of the country are you in? I will see what I can find as there are lots of company's based all over that tend to do events in a local area.

Also local running clubs put on events so check out websites for your local clubs

First official Half Marathon race this weekend but not a PB course.

I did manage to do a Half last week in 1:45:07 however, didn’t count as a pb as I was strawberry floating 0:07km off the distance.

Oh and I didn’t get into the London Marathon but have signed up to do it virtually with a running group.

That's some going and to get back after a bad break must make you feel super chuffed.

I guess I’m just being lazy  I think there was a link to all UK events I used to access Runner’s World. I’m not really a Facebook user but will have a look for events that way if you recommend it. I have enjoyed being a part of a running group in the past but generally prefer to run solo in the main. I work a lot of hours so making commitments to groups is tricky. At the moment the longer days are allowing me to run in the afternoons after work.

I’m in Peterborough too and fortunate to live within running distance of the Parkrun venue at ferry meadows. I have a route I love that takes me through Lynchwood to Alwalton then Castor and back via the nene valley railway path. There are so many awesome trail paths just minutes from my house. I’m not sure if at this point if it’s helping me improve my fitness or speed but at least it makes me happy. I try to do a big run twice a week, somewhere between 15 and 20km.

I’ve entered the great eastern run for the autumn but wanted to add a couple of other events to give me something of a race calendar. I love Parkrun but work every Saturday just now so I’ve not been able to attend.

I have entered the Peterborough half marathon to, glad to see it return and hopefully we get no bomb scares this time!!!!

Check out total race timing and sublime racing whom are both local race organisers.

Peterborough GP 5K series starts in the summer, it's 6 5k races every 2 weeks on a Wednesday.

Whitemoor 5mile in July that's my local club race

Feb gallop 10k

Ramsey 10k

Keith Hill Memorial (Thorney) 10k

Loads and loads to choose from.

That's a lovely area to run, I used to work in the old n and p building so would often run into Ferry Meadows at lunch. Never got the chance to do much of the trails sadly.

Thanks for the tips dude! I’ve taken part in the 5k Grand Prix series a couple of times and had a great time. Love running in the summer evenings, the Stamford one is a bit of a slog though  I also ran the inaugural Peterborough marathon which was enjoyable if a little uninspiring as it was basically just a combination of my two main running routes although I don’t think it’s running this year.

The Folksworth 15 is one I’ve heard good things about but that runs in January I think. A hilly 15 mile course that feels like a 20. For a local event it feels a bit exclusive though with entries limited.

I ran Folksworth January 2020 and it's a slog, 2 laps and the last hill on each lap you can see miles out, it's massive. Definitely a good race if marathon training.

I've got a pair of Asics Patriot 12s, they seem good enough for the amount of running I do.

The thing with shoes is there is no right or wrong answer, just go with what works for you.

I know people who buy shoes every month and others who just have one pair.

I’d like to try the new, New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 V12 when my current everyday run out. I’ll see what the reviews are against the incoming Clifton 9’s, either that or may move over to the Mach 5’s.

I do love my Clifton 8’s but they do run on the big toe and when I do long mileage I get blisters.

It's so nice to be out in the early morning now and it actually be light. So much better mentally to not dread it.
