I attempted The Omen 66.6 today. A 68-ish mile run along the hilly North Downs Way.

The hills were relentless. I'd trained running/walking up them many times individually but stringing them all together in a single run was just too much for my legs. So going into Checkpoint 3 (24 miles) my knees, hips, feet, and ankle were hurting and I had given up. I rested for 5 minutes, took an ibuprofen, and went and got an ice cream, then decided to push on and see if I'd feel better. I knew I wasn't going to make the full course but if I could just get to the next checkpoint I'd not be too disappointed.

The next few miles weren't too bad, but then my knee suddenly started to get sharp pains again and that convinced me I needed to stop at Checkpoint 4 (edit: 32 miles). I got there in 2nd place (only 5 of us entered the ultra) and called it a day.

That's still some achievement mate, well done.

I have my first relay in two weeks for my club called the Green Wheel relay where we run 50 miles of the Peterborough Green Wheel Cycle network. I'm on leg 1 so went for a practice to make sure I was confident with the route and managed to get there without taking a wrong turn :D

Cheers, completed 32 miles in the end which isn't too bad considering how hot it was and the terrain.

Learning the route is so vital!! I had spent weeks learning sections of this North Downs Way, and then a week ago my brother entered the same race but he didn't know the route at all and had to rely on signposts (it is sign-posted the whole way, but they can be hard to spot sometimes) He ended up getting lost repeatedly, and gave up at the 24 mile point with 29 miles on his watch :fp:

Hit 2,000km on my Nike+ app today which was over 3 years in the making. Would carry me all the way to Tunis. Compared to some of the other distances people are charting in it it's nothing but I'm happy to still be slogging out the clicks very slowly. Can't imagine what state my hips and knees are in though.

I managed to get my fastest ever parkrun at the weekend. Morecambe parkrun is a fast one.

First 5k after having ditched the running for the last ~6 months due to various illnesses, distractions, lack of time etc. Lost about 2 and half minutes off my pace! :dread:

Felt nice to back at it though! :toot:

I ran a practice half marathon at the weekend in preperation for my HM in October and my easy run is now last year's PB!

1:59:40 for a full marathon distance. That was absolutely stunning. Stunning.

Watched the whole thing. Incredible!
At halfway I didn't he was going to do it, we didn't get a halfway split but it looked to me like he was just over an hour. That final km was epic.

Unbelievable achievement.

Would love to know how many calories he burned while running and the amount still to burn off during recovery!

Saw a tweet earlier saying only 5 parkruns ever have beaten Kipchoge's marathon pace. And he ran at 17 second 100m pace for the whole thing. That's strawberry floating insane.

Hey everyone, not posted in a while. Hope everyone's running is going ok.

2019 (or 2018) hasn't been fantastic in terms of running for me but I did manage to complete the Spartathlon event in Greece a couple of weeks ago (153 mile non-stop run from Athens to Sparta). It was a bit of a challenge this year and I'm not sure I've got the motivation to run long stuff any more.

Race report can be found here: https://paulsrunningblog.com/2019/10/12 ... artathlon/

Peterborough Half Marathon cancelled today, was going for sun 1:30 PB

Cambridgeshire Police has released the following statement in relation to the cancellation of the Perkins Great Eastern Run:

We were called with reports of a man acting suspiciously in Alexandra Road, Peterborough this morning which ultimately resulted in the Great Eastern Run being cancelled.

We take all calls extremely seriously, even more so in light of recent events across the country, and as a result a major firearms response was launched. Following a comprehensive investigation it is believed that the witness was acting in good faith but has misinterpreted what was seen.

We would like to thank the public, the race goers and the organisers of the Great Eastern Run for their patience and support today.

Our Assistant Chief Constable, Dan Vajzovic was among the thousands of runners ready to take part in the race.

He said: “I was one of the runners who had spent months preparing for today’s event. I was ready to go and looking forward to the challenge. I know that the cancellation will have been incredibly frustrating for all those involved. However, it was the right decision for the event organisers (working closely with Police colleagues) to cancel the race. Public safety is paramount. I will be back next year, looking to achieve a personal best and I hope all the other runners will be too.”

Well done on completing Spartathlon again. That's a huge achievement in itself, never mind after a tough year. I have only run four ultras so far but during and after every one I tell myself it is the last and I am giving up running.

Good luck for the Thames Trot. I was planning on running it too, but have now switched to CTS Dorset in November. I've been doing lots of hill training all year and might enter the ballot for CCC next year, so a flat race didn't really make sense right now.

I ran the Birmingham half marathon on the same day. They cut two miles off because of safety concerns. I thought it was because the weather was bad but got an email a couple of days later saying that it was because somebody parked a suspicious van on the course and they couldn't find the owner. Personally I think it all sounds a bit ridiculous.

Oh god that sucks and worst than our race, imagine if you're on for a PB then it's taken away.

I don't know I'm glad I got to run some distance. I would have been fumming is I had gone all the way to Birmingham and been told the whole thing was off.

Although I personally like to have made my own decision knowing what had happened but I guess it'd be hard to tell everybody.
