Was dreading running today, it was so humid that we agreed to take it easy, then about half way through the guy I ran with asked how I was and when I replied I was feeling fine he said, "you do realise you're going way faster than normal! We could break your record if you can keep this up"

It was like running in an oven and breathing hairdryer air, and fffuuuck me the last 3/4 of a mile uphill bit was horrible but I only bloody did it. 4 miles in 32 mins, in bastard hot heat (my kryptonite). Looking at the run keeper do dah after, the first mile was a 7 min, then the rest were 8, 8 & 8.
Only downer is I didn't stretch properly at the end and now my legs are strawberry floated.
Does anyone else take part in Park Run? Every Saturday morning at 9am at parks up and down the country tens of thousands of people run a 5km course. The other week there were over 600 people at my local event.
My step mum does those a fair bit and mentioned for me to get on it since I only do 10k's with her and my dad two or three times a year so to give me something to keep me going. How well organised have you found them?
That's not a growth wrote:My step mum does those a fair bit and mentioned for me to get on it since I only do 10k's with her and my dad two or three times a year so to give me something to keep me going. How well organised have you found them?
Very well organised. There isn't much for them to do, because everyone there is in attendance for the same reason. You also find it is a certain type of person who gets up in time for a run at 9 in the morning on a Saturday! There are people stood at key locations to applaud and encourage you as you run and as horrendously cheesy as that sounds it does add to the enjoyment .
I keep meaning to go and do parkruns but I only get every second Saturday off work and as bad as it sounds, it's really difficult to get up and go do them when the alternative is a nice, warm bed.
I don't think I could do a park run, mainly because it means mixing with people who go running. You know the sort, always wearing technical tops with the names of a run they did on it. BRISTOL 10K COMPETITOR 2010. Float off
I found that increasing my strides rather than actually trying to run quickly made a difference today, well at least I think it did. Had to get a sort of bounce going and try to maintain tha rather than just do more of my usual steps.
I've done 30-odd parkruns, been a while since my last one though. Going to get back on it after my holiday. I quite like mixing it up and going to different parkruns, especially as my local one is pretty hilly.
Ran 17.5 miles on Saturday, figured I could get the half marathon achievement for the month on strava. Stupid thing cocked up and didn't register it; ended up doing eight and a half on Tuesday followed by 13.4 on Wednesday. Not feeling it too badly aside from being absolutely shattered still. 1:49 which is okay I guess.
What everyone's average run distance out of interest?
I've only ever done 4 miles as the maximum, but that's mostly a time limit thing as I've only got my lunch break to work with (I don't do it outside of work, find it more of a motivator to have it not eat in to 'my' time). I think I could maybe do 6 miles now at a lower pace, it's just finding the time to do it. 17.5 miles, Jesus I can't even comprehend doing that!
I didn't stretch properly yesterday and my legs are strawberry floated now, feels like the lower back of my legs have been punched repeatedly.

Successful Park Runs for anyone this morning? I went with three others and we all hit new PBs. Not a huge achievement considering how many events we have attended between us, but you have to start somewhere! Think I was around 24 minutes.
Went back to Somerset this weekend to see friends and went to our favourite curry house while we were there, the last time we went being Christmas. The waiter always chats to us there and the first thing he said to me is, "wow you've got really skinny" P felt good man, when you see the same people every day you don't notice and change in yourself so I wasn't sure the running was really doing anything.

Been looking into Park Run and now i've moved i'm not too far from the Hampstead one, so I may give that a go in the next few weeks (after Glastonbury and the recovery period...)
Don't actually know when I last did a 5k, so may do some afternoon jogs before doing it. Get those legs working again.

I've done the Hampstead Heath one before. Enjoy the couple of big old hills!
(great fast downhills too, though, so that's always fun).
