Used strava for years. Big advocate of it.

Been struggling with running recently as my breathing is always awful. The few times when it is fine during my run, I then struggle for hours afterwards. Had it every winter since I took up running and always thought it was just the cold air, but this year it also happened a few times when at home. So I finally went to the GP and they've diagnosed it as Asthma.

I had a couple puffs on an inhaler before my run today and it was so much better. Hopefully that means I can keep training over the winter as I have a couple of races in March.

Also got a Samsung Galaxy Watch for Christmas and have used it on a couple of runs so far. Nice to be able to go out and run whilst listening to music with just the watch and no phone, although still getting used to all the options. I've used the Galaxy Health app so far to track activity (have used Strava before but will try t sync data from the Health app to Strava on my next run as I've seen that's an option) and it gives a lot of detail, a lot of which I'm not that used to e.g. heart rate zones (seemed to spend a lot of time in the max zone for a 5k run the other day) and running metrics (contact time, regularity, asymmetry etc) but interesting to see.

I think I need to book a physio appointment as I appear to have runners knee and have done for a bit of time now. Never booked a physio before, what is the best way of doing this? And is something like runners knee a valid reason to see one?

The knee pain is normally the day after a run and is reducing the distances I'm thinking of running as well as the regularity.

Physio can help and I would definitely do that.

Can anyone recommend any wrist devices to help with run tracking and pacing. Not looking to break the bank so don’t want to spend much more than £100. It’s only something I’d use while running to so don’t something that connects to my phone and will help me pace better is what I really need.

I've mainly stuck with Garmin watches, briefly went to Suunto, but then came back again.

Their base running watch is the Forerunner 55 (£119 at Argos, might be cheaper elsewhere). Does everything you could need plus more. This site is great for watch reviews and explaining everything it does:

If you want to save money then you can pick up a used Garmin 45 (previous model) for about £50-60 on eBay. Should still do everything you need.

Honestly mate. If its just basic basic you want. Get an amazfit band 5 or bip 3 they're dirt cheap And then if you find you're enjoying it, upgrade in like 6 months..

The other option is just to take your phone with you and use Strava or something. Not as easy to pace yourself if it's worn on your arm, but you can get it to read out km/mile splits and track your runs.

Going to be getting keyhole surgery on my knee, looks like a 3 month wait. Waiting for the hospital letter to confirm the date.

I am gutted for you but at least you have a date now. What would be the recovery after?

Still suffering with my Achilles however, I am about 85% better, I feel it when running but the pain goes away when I stop. It’s not enough pain to stop me running but it does limit my pace.

PLAY | Persona 3 Reloaded [3h]
WATCH | HiJack S1, Red Dwarf S7, Dexter S2
RACE | Chew Valley 10k (June), GNR (Sept), Cardiff Half (Oct)

Forgot to mention, I am seriously considering entering the ballot for the Great North Run this year. Could be costly with hotel and travel.

First 5km of the year hit at 33 minutes. A lot of work to do on the time and my ankles are in a bit of pain but progress at least.

What's your run like? Flat, steep, etc.

Smashed out 28:32 today, loads of progress already!

I'm tempted to try a completly flat 5k at some point to see how I do without inclines. I stitched myself up abit today because I miscalculated the end of my route and hit an incline at 4k that I hadn't made all the way back down by the time I hit 5k so all the pain and only some of the gain!

Pretty happy. Wanted to get to sub 30 by end of month so now I'm gonna try and get sub 28 on my current route.

I need 32s to complete parkrun stopwatch bingo. A completely flat 5k could knock 1min+ off your time. Also if its at parkrun and youre going for a time, check last weeks results on the website and guage your estimated position/time, and try to start around there in the pack - going through back markers can add about 1min to your time.

Nah I've never done parkrun. May look at the ones in my ars though because I've only heard good things!

I tend to run around my village. There's fields around it which is much better for me to run on because I sprained both my ankles last year and they're still a little suspect.
