Hey everyone, it's been a while since I posted but just completed my next major milestone as I work back to full fitness following a couple of knee surgeries and two years out (plus about 5 years of indifferent running).

Pleased to say I managed to complete the Thames Path 100 (mile) race last weekend and the knee stood up to the distance fine. The less said about the grotty conditions, miles of mud, a comedy fall and a bit of puking the better. A typical day in the life of an ultra runner.

Still have plenty of work to do to get anywhere close to previous fitness and weight but its a good step in the right direction. Hope y'all doing ok.

Good to see you back.
What did you have done? I had arthroscopy on my right knee almost four weeks ago and it is so hard dealing with the will I/won't I run again.

Yes, two knee arthroscopies. One to tidy up some frayed cartilage and another (12 months later - same knee) to repair a torn medial meniscus. Think I tried to return too early after the first op so took it very steady the second time round. Had to start again from scratch and modified the training to ease back into it, plenty more work to do though.

Bristol Half time was 1:44:30 last 5k was very painful my hamstring was crying out!

Aimed for a 1:50 due to injuries but extremely happy with the time due to the circumstances.

Nice one, 5 minutes under target is a pretty good effort!

Bristol Half was my first ever race back in 2011. I wasn't a runner, didn't do much training, and then got an injury about 10 miles in and limped to the finish in 2hr10. I Didn't run again until 2017

Yes, replied to it above but repeated here in case you missed it.

Nice! I know a few people who did that yesterday, how was it? Looked pretty busy from the pics I saw, but I'm assuming they were mostly at the start.

Was busy and plenty of water stops along the way, had to start walking a bit during the last 2/3 miles.

About 24,000 runners were there, not sure how many DNF there were. Cut off time was (3 and a half hours)

I ran the Fox Ultra (39 miles) yesterday. It's my local ultra and so was the fifth time I'd run it. I haven't done much long distance training this year and almost none last year so I wasn't expecting too much in terms of finish time.

At the half marathon point I was feeling good and on for a PB if I didn't slow down too much. Shortly after that the sun came out and I struggled in the heat. There also a very long open section with no shade. Legs were already hurting too, so I realised it was not happening and just took it easy for the second half of the race.

It was about a mile longer than usual and my finish time was right in the middle of my five attempts, which isn't too terrible considering the heat and longer course. I'm pretty sure if I stick with my training I can PB next year.

went out for my a little 3km loop as I have just stared back up, and ended up going for 10k. First time I have gone that distance in like 4 years. Needless to say I am shattered"

The run was nice though, comprised of a bit of road, field and forest trails, dirt track and a lot of hills.

First 10k race of the year yesterday, was so humid and horrible to run in, I was soaked when I finished from sweat alone, plus as it was through a wooded area my eyes were streaming because of hayfever and I got a stitch on the last 1.5km.

Still, got my second quickest 10k time of 45:49. (a minute away from my pb which is bazaar)
