Bumping this thread as I've just finished watching it! Fantastic at times, slow at others but overall it builds nicely from pilot to finale.

I will say the ending felt it left the side characters with a few loose ends.

dutch's serial killer child had no resolution, Claudette's illness was left a bit vague. Danni had no real ending neither did Julian. And did Acevada win mayoral race?

But as for the strike team

I hated Vic from the pilot, he was a selfish murderer and though he had occasional heroic moments, his final actions were once again selfish, hanging his best friend and "family" Ronnie out to dry while he saved his own ass! I actually laughed at the miserable life he was left with at the end, he didn't deserve a happy ending. It's Ronnie I felt sorry for, Vic's big speech about family and being in it together convinced him to stay and ultimately cost him everything!

“Shield” Actor Michael Jace Found Guilty Of Murdering His Wife

A jury in Los Angeles on Tuesday found Michael Jace guilty of second-degree murder in the shooting death of this wife in 2014.

Actor Michael Jace, who played a police officer on the hit show The Shield, was found guilty Tuesday of second-degree murder for the shooting death of his wife. A jury of six women and six men deliberated about two hours before finding Jace, 53, guilty.

During the weeklong trial, Jace’s defense attorney acknowledged Jace shot his wife, but argued it was not premeditated and should instead be considered involuntarily manslaughter because it was committed in the heat or passion.

However, the prosecution painted a very different picture at trial.

After April Jace — a 40-year-old financial aid counselor at Biola University — had made it clear she planned to file for divorce, the actor waited with a loaded handgun and opened fire when she returned home.

Jace shot in the back and then two more times in the legs in front of their sons, who were 8 and 5 at the time. After the shooting, Michael Jace called 911 to report the incident, but April was dead by the time police arrived.

At the time, the actor had been unemployed and struggling with his finances.

The actor’s two young sons were also home when the shooting occurred and are now living with relatives, according to police. His 10-year-old son testified at trial.

Michael Jace, who has been in custody since his arrest, faces 40 years to life in prison when he is sentenced on June 10.

Just started watching this and have blasted through 3 seasons. It’s brilliant, if a tiny bit ‘product of its time’.
Amazon Prime Video and All4 are both removing it at the end of the month and the DVD’s are...well according to reviews the discs are dodgy as all hell.
I’m going to look about in April to see where it lands (if anywhere) but if anyone knows a way to watch it can you let me know?
Also, Danny aiiiiii

Wow didn't realise the actor who played Julian murdered his wife!

I loved The Shield, haven't rewatched it since watching it 13 years ago but decided to do so recently. On season 4 atm and I agree it's a little dated / product of it's time but it's just so easy and fun to watch. Some of the plots or words used would likely not be done if it was a brand new show.

Watching it with someone who hasn't seen it is great, I imagine it's a bit like watching Game of Thrones as a book reader alongside someone who ought watched the show.

How grim is it though?! Every episode just seems to find a new way to shock me. At the same time I’m regularly chuckling through it at the banter. Fantastic writing.

Its a great show. We bought all the DVDs and I can't say I ever noticed a problem with them.

My favourite bit is when the all-white strike team commit acts of extreme police brutality almost exclusively against minorities in every episode and the only time their morals are really questioned are when they steal drug money or kill other white cops.

This is why I ended up giving up on it after the third season, where Dutch strangles a cat and Aceveda is raped.

It's all the show seemed to care about.

They cut out like 20 minutes from the Season 5 and 6 finales IIRC. A pretty notable plotpoint which is cut is directly referenced later.

That Acevada scene. :dread:

His wife victim blaming him for it too and being generally unsympathetic and awful. :dread:

That was a strawberry floating horrible scene. A rare moment of compassion from Vic when he sees the video of it on the phone and rather than make a mockery of him as expected, he keeps it quiet and private.

What did you play them through, a console, blu-ray player or...?
Also, didn’t Acaveda seize that phone and delete that pic? or have I read a spoiler I’m not at yet  :fp:

It'll have been on my ps3 at the time. I forget how it gets seen, but I don't think you've spoiled anything.

Just started it! Was a great surprise to see him in it.
This is removed from Prime Video and All4 at the end of today - if it doesn’t land anywhere else, Netflix or something, I’m going to have to take a risk on the discs.

I've been relying on Prime (as of yesterday) as couldn't see The Shield on Sky's built in All4 search. (Sky's box set downloads seem far higher quality than Prime, less compression etc).

I've downloaded the entirety of season 6 and season 7 from Prime onto my iPad but I've no idea if they'll be removed from the offline downloads automatically or if there's a grace period of 30 days etc.

When I first watched The Shield, it was broadcast on 4:3 and SD and I'll still have all 7 seasons on an external hard drive somewhere but after getting used to glorious HD wide-screen update I'll be pissed if that's the only easy way for me to finish my re-watch.

Edit: somehow amending the post on the bottom of page 2 also amended this post too.
