I imagine that everything after Homer getting punted through the door will be replaced as in the normal sequence. Other than the lengthy "tracking the couch" sequence, it wasn't too bad. Just a bit more up to date.

Now, if only the show could be good again.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Krusty advertising board changes each week too.

I think the couch part will be where it ends, maybe the extra part locating the couch is just for that episode. I like it. Its a bit fresh.

The devil is on a mountain next to Flander's house, shaking his fist at God. For some reason, I find this very irritating.

The movie made like half a billion dollars so I don't think they will be dropping the simpsons anytime soon.

Ralf also seems to be playing in the dirt on Frank Grimes' grave. How very random.

Despite the fact that the Simpsons has been relatively gooseberry fool for the last 8 years or so, it's still better than 90% of everything else on TV.

I distinctly remember in 2000, reading in a SKY magazine interview that Groening said something along the lines of "I don't want to talk about a movie - If we ever do a movie, it'll be a sign that we're running dry, and the end of the series is near"

You haven't read the rest of the thread, have you?

I dipped in and out, some liked it and some didn't

We did explain why some counch gags are long and some aren't.

That's irrelevant. They should put more effort into the episode rather that producking an overly long opening sequence.

If a story is best told in 20 minutes, tell it in 20 minutes. You wouldn't ask Orwell to bulk up Animal Farm because it's a little thin, would you?

But yes, they should put more effort into the episode.

The fact is, I like many others do not like the new episodes, they are alot more for kids these days but its a lot better to watch I think just for familarity than most other things, because its The Simpsons, sounds stupid but it is what it is.

I've been watching a lot of season 4 Simpsons lately. I've not kept up with new episodes in ages for obvious reasons but I still love the show, if mostly for its glory days. As someone who's seen the old intro a million times over now the new one made me laugh quite a bit, particularly at the 'twists'. Barney under the leaves

On the season 4 DVD commentaries, they often admit to padding out episodes with irrelevant stuff, like a parody of Bad Cops at the start of one episode that has nothing to do with the plot, or that Adventures of Ned Flanders one they randomly did at the end of an episode. Heck, I'm pretty sure Sideshow Bob's rake scene in Cape Feare was the reason for it, and we all know how everyone reacted to that :P It's not really anything new. To be honest I imagine it's a problem a lot of TV shows try to overcome.

I thought it was great!

I loved how they took bits out of the original opening sequence and changed them a little bit.

As this is the first one, they'll probably made an extra long "couch gag" to commemorate it. Next ones will likely be shorter.

Saw the full episode last night here when it aired, glad they didn't decide to do the whole shadows over faces thing they had in the movie, overall I thought it was a good episode.

I love Simpsons still, but this is true.

I'll admit Simpsons are better in old days but I still enjoy the new episodes. I do think they should axed it, give some rest, then make new series or whatever...but I don't think that'll happen since The Simpsons is very very very popular.

Anyway, when I thought the new opening sequence is rather cool, it's too long. Hopefully it's just one-timing thing.

I thought it was bloody boring. I watched it with a group of friends and we sat and watched it in complete silence.
