So... The Orville is basically Star Trek now?

It's probably quite telling about Star Trek's current heading that I was infinitely more upset by Ted Danson's treason and death in the latest Orville episode than I am about anything Star Trek has done since it came back to television.

You weren't upset at Shaxx in S1 of Lower Decks?

Although today's Orville was pretty good

I'll give you that actually, that was probably the absolute peak of new-Trek. Lower Decks is still far and away the best recent series for me, though I have enjoyed Strange New Worlds.

Orville season 3 has been very impressive actually, I've really enjoyed it and the way it's looked into some pretty painful current issues. Looking forward to seeing how they round it out next week.

I'm watching at Paramount + pace so I just watched episode 8 of Strange New Worlds and I have to say I bloody loved it.
It was silly and over the top but the story was great and I enjoyed every second.

It's really nice to have old style episodic Trek back again where they can just do silly flights of fancy and focus on a single character and not worry about an overall plot.

I started Orville season 3 yesterday and caned 8 episodes as I was enjoying it so much. Its exactly where Trek should be these days.

Some of the episodes in season 1 and 2 tackled moral dilemmas very well but had some problematic issues. It's absolutely superb that those issues are canon and are being actively tackled in season 3 in an extremely effective manner.

The entire Topa arc has been incredible. The acting involved has been absolutely fantastic. They have an extremely talented cast.

The storytelling feels like a proper evolution of the later TNG stuff and DS9.

Episode 8 is a really odd point to stop at

(When you get to Episode 9 you'll see why :P)

I messed up badly. My wife is away so I had to get up to walk the dog before it gets too hot, and I finished episode 8 at about 1am.

I have one more work call before I can finish the series. Literally can't wait.

The Topa episode with the sanctuary was incredible. The torture scene with Topa had real TNG Chain of Command vibes. I found it equally shocking and effective considering it was happening to a child.

I was actually pleasantly surprised they expelled Moclus from the union for it.

Episode nine follows up on that in a really fantastic way. I honestly think this season of Orville has been the best Trek content since Voyager ended.

Come on, as much flack as it gets Enterprise had some cracking episodes, especially in Season 4 (Except for the finale which shall never be spoken of again)

Yeah I'm not with you there Laga, but I'll admit that I only watched season one and couldn't continue because it was unmitigated early 2000s shite. I also found it *really* misogynist in places as well. The way they treated that Vulcan character :dread:

They definitely got better with that stuff.
Enterprise also has pretty the best Mirror Universe episodes of any Trek in Season 4.

They even changed the opening credits for the two parts

Do you mean the decontamination scenes? To be fair their were nudey men in there too. I'm not sure I'd call it mysongistic when they complelelty uncessary objectified both.

There was even an episode where poor Connor Trinner was in his pants the entire time!

Um...down with this sort of thing?

Enterprise 3 and 4 were generally really good though - and Bollock Blalock gave a very good performance as a Vulcan and her relationships with humans

Yeah Season 1&2 of Enterprise are a bit of a slog but season 3/4 are much better and it was finally getting good when they killed it.

The last season when they finally started linking into the wider Trek world and showing set ups for TOS stuff was really good. Insane that it took them nearly four series to do that though. Also inventing Alpha Quadrant races in season 1 who we haven't heard of who are very powerful made no sense.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:
