Yes, Petercrisp's dream is finally here!

From Classic Trek to The Next Generation, from Deep Space Nine to Voyager, from Enterprise to...er... cancellation and the telly graveyard, there's a lot to talk about.

Now 46 years old, the franchise has snared multiple generations of young and old alike. But what is its appeal? Why do some people love it so much and others just not get it at all? What are the best moments, the scenes that had the hairs on the back of your neck sticking up in wonder or tension or sheer excitement? And what are the Thresholds... sorry, the nadirs of the experience for you? Maybe it was Spock's Brain, or Shades of Grey, or that time when a very satisfying season-spanning story arc turned into a last second twist featuring Space Nazis.

Who's your favourite captain? Are you a Counsellor Troi or Jadzia Dax kinda guy? Did Rick Berman make Star Trek or kill it, or maybe both? Do you have a dartboard with a picture of Brannon Braga on it, or do you still love the guy who wrote Cause and Effect, State of Mind, Parallels and co-wrote First Contact?

How do the shows stack up against those which have come since, particularly the likes of Battlestar Galactica? Was the JJ Abrams reboot a triumph? Is the slowness of a sequel arriving, going to sap all the momentum that seemed to be gathering pace? Would you like a new show on the air? If so, what would it be?

Also, it's TNG's 25th anniversary this year. What are your memories of the show which many people still think is the finest Trek ever to air?

Let's get some discussion going! Veterans of the series, casual viewers and even baffled "why Trek?!" forumites all welcome.

I will update this thread with new polls from time to time. The first is about the best season finale. I've cherry-picked a load from various series. Let's decide on what GRCade thinks is the dog's bollocks. I suspect I can guess the result, but we'll see!

I remember All Good Things being pretty damn amazing at the time.

I like the one where Mr T marries Janeway's grand daughter.

DS9 was always my favourite series so it felt wrong to vote for anything other than All You Leave Behind (even though the episode that preceded it was the real finale).

Wasn't favour the bold a ds9 finale? I remember it ended with a huge armada of star fleet ships facing off against the dominion, a real cliff hanger. I remember being so excited for what was coming!

That lonely vote for STV's Scorpion is mine.

Although it was the beginning of the end of Borg greatness, this cliffhanger was definitely the highpoint for me. Also had far reaching consequences for the ship and crew, instead of everything being back to normal as usual. Surprisingly, even though we predictably only got to see a five-second snippet of the Borg/ Species 8472 war, I was thoroughly satisfied with the conclusion - if only they'd left the Borg alone after that!

I'd've voted for that - seeing the Defiant and Martok's Bird of Prey pull into formation with the sixth fleet was a wet dream... but we don't see the actual battle until Sacrifice of Angels, midway through the next season.

Favour the Bold was the 5th episode of Season 6, and the cliff hanger was resolved in the next Episode "Sacrifice of the Angels"

The Charge at 6 minutes gives me goosebumps everytime

I said "A Call to Arms". A) it has great battles, b) Political maneuvers c) the ending was unexpected at the time and d) it kicked of the Dominion War arc which would define the show until the end.

Not much of a Trekkie myself.

Most exposure I had was really the movies themselves. And the reboot film is rather good. But my favourite has to be First Contact.

If I was flicking through the tv channels and Star Trek is on, I will always stop and watch it. Unless it's Voyager. I particularly like DS9 the best. The early episodes of Generations is totally pants, but it picked up in the later episodes. Thank god for Netflix, so I can sit and watch them proper.

At least with that method, I'll know if there are any good episodes in Voyager. Most of the characters on that pretty made me want to slap them in the face with a wet fish. And I don't think I'll ever forget about that dreadful episode where the Captain and one of the hated characters evolved and breeded.

Massive, massive fist pump moment when:

The Klingons join the fight. And that massive FX shot before the end.

One of the best space battles ever, that.

In what way? The Dominion war ended in What You Leave Behind, no story arcs were tied up in the episode before... are you splitting the thing into 2 parts, like they did on subsequent TV broadcasts? In which case, I suppose you could argue that "Part I" was the finale in some ways.

Definitely Voyager's best episode for me. Very good. At the time, I actually thought it was better than Call To Arms (the DS9 finale released at the same time), though subsequent viewings had me changing my mind.

Yep, that's what I'm thinking of. I saw it in two parts I think.

Although TBOBW would have got my vote if Scorpion wasn't dear to me as being the first episode I ever watched.

Also, great thread Eighty. You may be an anally retentive insular little Englander, but you have good taste.

All good things, obviously.

Out of the other episodes, I love The Inner Light, In the Pale Moonlight and Sacrifice of Angels, those are my all time favourites. There's other episodes that have a special place for me, Best of Both Worlds/Family, The Visitor and Hard Time. I don't see Hard Time get too many mentions, but that was an amazing episode. Colm Meaney is strawberry floating brilliant in it.

Voyager was probably my favourite series around the time that aired, and that episode was amazing. It's such a shame the Undine and Borg were so squandered after that point.
