Wouldn't have worked for syndication, which was how Star Trek was made back then.

I'm glad we now have series that can have series or multi series overall stories now.
It's hard to go back to stories of the week with very little character development.

It's one of the better things that streaming and on-demand has given us.

Also, it ruined the show a little for me to find out that Janeway and Seven of Nine hated each other IRL.

I thought that was more Mulgrew not liking the show (with a strong female Captain etc) suddenly bringing onboard Tits McGee, and then it calmed down later when they dressed Seven properly rather than like a blow up doll and the stories were good?

Awwww. I knew Ryan said there was also lots of tension early on when basically every story in season 4 was about Seven (a new 'toy' for the writers to play with so got lots of focus) but I thought it got better

I assume Beltram (had to look up the actor) and Wang were just hated by the writers/producers/anyone to do with the show

Edit - Although I also read recently that although the TNG cast got on very well, basically everyone else hated them as they were childish/unrpofessional/having fun and things/scenes took so much longer than necessary as a result

Yeah they tried to have their cake and eat it. Either you commit to having resource scarcity and lasting consequences to every encounter or you don't!

My TNG re-watch continues apace - watched episodes 3-5 of season 3 last night. Definitely a more consistent batch so far, certainly no true clunkers yet anyway! Much space high jinks have continued, Troi has suffered from that awful affliction which gets us all from time to time - the dreaded earworm, "The Picard" has been deified by a race of primitives after the bloke out of Twin Peaks got a look at him, and Worf effectively adopts a teenage kid who I'm sure we'll never hear of again!

Also relating to the earlier discussion of somewhat "odd" endings to episodes "The Survivors" was a bit of a strange one. A powerful alien entity basically admits to the genocide of an entire species having essentially vaporised all 50 billion of them instantly, and Picard is just like "strawberry float it, we'll call it quits. You can just hang out on this planet with your imaginary wife"

Now obviously this being was way too powerful for the crew to have actually been able to do anything but they could have at least acted like they gave a gooseberry fool!

Is that the one where it’s just a guy living in a log cabin for most of the episode With his wife and then he’s like “uh yeah, I really strawberry floated this one guys, accidentally killed an entire system full of people but it’s ok because I’m old and living in exile” and the whole crew basically just laughs it off and leaves? The log cabin and wife were illusions or some space-shit?

Pretty much!

They find this guy and his wife as the only survivors on a planet that has otherwise been totally decimated, dude tries to claim he's a pacifist and when the aliens came to destroy the planet he just ignored it. Turns out that he is some all powerful being and when his wife was killed in the attack he uses his power to wipe out the entire species of aliens that attacked the planet, then he recreates his wife and carries on as normal.

Picard is like "that's messed up but what the hell we'll leave you to it!"

What exactly were the Federation supposed to do to a being who can just think entire civilisations out of existence? You may as well expect them to try and imprison Q.

Oh I know - I said as much above, but it's the lack of any real attempt to condemn the being that irks!

"We are not qualified to be your judge" .... uh you what Jean Luc?! You may not be able to do something about it but you are more than qualified to tell him it's strawberry floating wrong and at least attempt to engage with the problem!

It's official Federation policy to do nothing if the crime is big enough I guess?

Riker takes the empath to her quarters. Empath kisses him twice. Riker leaves sexually frustrated. Immediately heads to the holosuite.

Watched Booby Trap last night. Unlucky in love Geordi creates himself an imaginary girlfriend in the holodeck to soothe his fragile ego and falls for her hard. He certainly looked like he wanted to take up the offer to "enter when ready"

Also some stuff with ancient aliens and booby traps happened and Picard takes the conn to show off his skills at pushing a d-pad.

I've played Star Trek Bridge Crew on PSVR and piloting a Star Ship is a piece of piss.
I didn't even need to attend Star Fleet or have any training, that's how good I am at space ship stuff .

To be fair Troi was a pretty decent pilot given that she was able to avoid at least some Klingon weapon fire and keep the ship from being destroyed with no shields. The ship only crashed when the Helm went completely offline.

Watched the first Barclay episode this morning. He's such a lovable dude, despite being a holodeck perv. There's a few funny bits in this episode.
