Yeah just TOS films, I too love First Contact.

Nemesis gets way too much undeserved hate. Sure it's far from perfect, but it's way better than stuff like Insurrection and Final Frontier.

An elongated episode is a good way to describe TMP. The first half is SFX porn, the second half is boring, and the whole idea is a bit lame. The only good bit I remember is the transporter malfunction.

II is great, obviously.

Controversial opinion - I think III is a really enjoyable film. When I did my marathon I sat down to watch it fully expecting to relive a stinker based on the odd/even rule for the old films, but I was very pleasantly surprised. It's also part of a trilogy so without III IV makes no sense.

IV - is this one supposed to be crap now? I always liked it. The time travel is silly but all time travel is silly. It's very light hearted but it's essentially a fish out of water comedy.

V - yeah, terrible. I actually think TMP might be worse though but that's because I really didn't like TMP.

VI - really good. Don't actually remember much about it though...

Generations - Data is great. The space battle and D crash is quite good IIRC? Not great other than that.

First Contact - SO. strawberry floating. GOOD. I want a Trek-themed Dead Space style game in the spiritual style of First Contact.

Insurrection - Better than it's given credit for. I remember quite liking this one.

Nemesis - kinda meh, memory is hazy.

I have a few problems with 3. One of the more random ones is the casting of Christopher Lloyd. I love him, but he isn't a very opposing badguy. He's a pencil neck nerd like me. Klingons are meant to be big, imposing dudes.

So, Picard all but confirmed Seven of Nine is Bisexual right?
They definitely seemed to be heavily implying she was in far more than just a business relationship with the gangster woman who turned out to be stripping former drones for parts.

That pre -TOS show with the Enterprise crew from Discovery is happening.

CBS All Access is firing up the USS Enterprise.

The streamer has handed out a straight-to-series order for Star Trek: Discovery spinoff Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The drama will see Anson Mount, Ethan Peck and Rebecca Romijn reprise their respective Discovery roles as Capt. Christopher Pike, Spock and Number One as the series explores the years the former manned the helm of the Enterprise. The show follows the trio in the decade before Capt. Kirk boarded the Enterprise as they explore new worlds around the galaxy.

Good premise, good cast (Pike  ), but will it have good writing? If Discovery's writers are involved I'm going to guess no. :(

Still, fingers crossed!

I've yet to experience Discovery myself but it does seem to be universally panned from what I can make out!

It's not universally panned by any means. Just a bunch of clickbaity Youtubers tend to shout louder than people who just get on and enjoy things.

I've had TNG on quite a lot in the background lately, and I've noticed it's just an easy watch, for many episodes you can actually just listen without really watching to get what's going on. They talk there way out of a lot of situations, and the political discussions and moral dilemmas are really interesting. I've realized this is what I wanted Picard to continue to be, and it's 20 years later and obviously couldn't just be a copy which is why I didn't enjoy it as much. I don't see any replay value in watching that series again, whereas TNG is the opposite.

I'm going to give Discovery another try, I watched Season One and really got nowhere. That and DS9. The same thing watched the first season and never got any further, but heard it really takes off half way through.

It's a really variable show. A few good eps, and a few more that were decent fun, but the quality of the scriptwriting faltered at key moments and for such a plot-based series it that made it a pretty frustrating watch in places.

Season 2, which I would describe as "patchy", was a big improvement on Season 1, which was a slog imo. I will be watching Season 3 for what it's worth.

While Discovery isn't my favourite Trek show ever it didn't deserve the kicking it got from some people who seemed eager to slate it as much as possible. Discovery is different but it is worth watching.

More Star Trek is always good news and they seemed to have listened to the fans who have been asking for a series about Captain Pike.

Discovery is....Ok. It's absolutely the worst Star Trek series, by quite a margin, but it's still Star Trek...though it really strawberry floating pushes it at times, and even Season 3 looks like it can't get away from the problem that has plagued it since day 1 in that they're obsessed with making it as grim and dark as possible.

Discovery never should have been a prequel. All through Season 1 I couldn't help getting the impression that the writers never wanted to be writing a sequel and had wanted to do new things with a sequel series instead, but it being a sequel was something outside of their control. That would've been fair enough, but if that were the case rather than being fair enough the writers seemd to just say "strawberry float it" and carry on doing things that should've been in a sequel rather than a prequel. Stuff like the Spore Drive, a Cybernetic crewman, Hologram communications, none of it belonged in a pre-TOS series. And making Burnham Spock's adopted sister was completely and utterly pointless and just a way to go "Look look! Look at this link to a known character!". Her character would have worked exactly the same had she just been adopted by a random Vulcan family.
Season 2 started out doing better, but then you got the whole Section 31 and Control plot that was just...ridiculous. Section 31 went from being a secretive organisation in Enterprise, to a well known branch of Starfleet with its own ships and outposts that everyone knew about but only their actual work was super secret, to then being a secretive organisation again by the time TOS rolls around.

And then that final battle. Whether you care about canon or not, the sheer number of shuttles between the Discovery and the Enterprise was just utterly stupid. And then the little repair robots that the Enterprise had, then somehow lost and that no Starfleet vessel ever had ever again.

And then the facepalm worthy way they explain it all off at the end of Season 2. The reason nobody ever talks about all of this is just because "Everyone was ordered not to tell anyone". That was all but an admission that they knew they had written themselves into a corner and had no idea how to get out of it.

Virtually all of Discovery's problems could have been solved by it not being a prequel series.
Season 3 does look to be trying to escape the restraint of being a prequel, by turning itself into Andromeda Season 6. Despite assurances by the showrunners that they had learned from past mistakes and would be making the show "More optimistic and more Trek-like", they proceeded to immediately release a trailer showing that it was going to be set in an apocalyptic dystopian future.

Watched The Undiscovered Country and Generations yesterday. Really enjoyed the former, the latter was okay, although some of the ideas were not really fleshed out much.

Kinda laughed when they killed off Picard's brother and nephew off camera. It's such an extreme way to introduce a character theme, feel like that could've been done better.

I watched Wrath of Khan yesterday, much better than I remember, a truly great Sci Fi film. I watched Search for Spock right after and it seems to get a little worse with every viewing, although I wouldn't say its a bad film. Klingons always make a film a tiny bit better and Christopher Lloyd is really good.

I always liked how 2, 3 and 4 run into each other. Like a wee trilogy.

Might have to rewatch the movies again soon. Some good stuff in there.
