Having recently watched S7, I was taken aback at how terrible Sub Rosa was. Worse than anything in S1.

Although TNG always had its wacky moments, Beverly Crusher reading her recently deceased grandmother's personal sex diaries and getting turned on (as if it was the most normal thing in the world) was pretty out there.

Almost as weird as that episode in S4 where she basically rapes Riker's body and everybody's okay with it. She's always been rather kinky, our Dr Crusher.

Ah the "Dr Crusher has sex with her dead grandmothers ghost boyfriend who lives in a magic candle" episode.
If you tell someone about it they'd never believe that was the genuine idea of the episode.

Holy strawberry float, that was an incredible season finale for Lower Decks.

Reached Measure of a Man last night and that was a sensational episode. I knew it's reputation bit yeah, that was fantastic.

It also put Picard firmly in its place: that entire series seemed to be based off a single episode and nowhere in its entire runtime did it come close to the excellence in that 45 minutes

The first truly great episode of TNG. And it was in Season 2.

Picard was strawberry floating trash, and I went in really wanting it to be good. Felt like a cobbled together bunch of half-plots and random ideas rather than any sort of continuous story.

TNG took a long time to really hit its stride. Not as long as Voyager (which hit its stride in Season 4, when Kes strawberry floated off and Seven of Nine joined), but still a long time.

Yep it was trash, and not even entertaining trash. The potential was there to do something but they clearly didn't have the first clue how to actually tell a coherent story within the universe

TOS - S1E15 - Balance of Terror - 10/10

First appearance of the Romulans as well as Mark Lenard's first Trek role (He would later play Sarek) as the Romulan Commander.

Basically the Romulans haven't been heard from since the end of the war 100 years ago and the establishment of the Neutral Zone. But someone has been destroying Federation colonies so the Enterprise investigates and naturally the old enemy has returned.

Most of the episode is a series of mind games as the two captains try to outmanuever and out-think each other and it's easily the most engaging episode of TOS I've watched so far.

One interesting aspect is that no-one know what the Romulans look like, so when they're revealed to look like Vulcans there's some genuine bigotry shown towards Spock from some of the crew.
It's quite interesting as TNG especially goes to great pains to show how humanity has evolved past it's flaws, but TOS still really shows that sometimes they haven't (DS9 wasn't afraid to show the uglier side of characters either).

I guess it's one of the aspects that demonstrates why it was considered really quite progressive at the time. Obviously it still has elements that wouldn't be acceptable today, but it's interesting to look back at it.

Kate Mulgrew, who played Captain Kathryn Janeway for 170 episodes on Star Trek: Voyager, will be reprising that character on Nickelodeon and CBS Studios’ new animated series Star Trek: Prodigy. The surprise announcement was made today at the end of the Star Trek Universe New York Comic-Con virtual panel. More casting news will be revealed in the next few months. The CG-animated series will air on Nick next year.

Kate Mulgrew beamed, “I have invested every scintilla of my being in Captain Janeway, and I can’t wait to endow her with nuance that I never did before in Star Trek: Prodigy. TNG still has its fair share of characters who are dicks and show many of Humanities flaws still exist.

I've enjoyed Lower Decks from start to finish. Really looking forward to seeing how it carries on after the way it ended.

My wife enjoyed it and she's not particularly into Star Trek, but there's so many deep, deep references to other Trek shows that the more you are familiar with it the more you can get from it.

The writers clearly love Star Trek and its evident in every episode.

The heroic rescue by Riker was about a billion times better than Picard's messy shite

The absolute ripping of Enterprise at the end of Lower Decks is amazing, we strawberry floating loved the whole thing.
