The thing about year of hell that grates me is that all the foreshadowing from Kes is completely ignored - at no point did anyone go "oh gooseberry fool, 6 months have passed and these guys are the Krenim, let's GTFO!"

To be fair, it's almost impossible not to just completely zone out when Kes is talking.

Year of Hell has that gigantic reset button that strawberry floating ruins it. I hate when shows do that.

I really wish they'd made this into an entire series story as they wanted.
26 episodes of them being hunted by an enemy that can erase cultures from time could have been epic.

DS9’s final couple of seasons is the best trek has ever been, but Voyager is my fave series overall. Picard and Discovery don’t even register.

I went back to my TOS watch after I got the DVDs for my Birthday and wrapped up season one. Some choice episodes in that last 6.

"The Devil in the Dark" - 8/10 - Unknown creature terrorises a bunch of miners. Could easily have just been a monster of the week episode, but manages to elevate itself with some great scenes (Think it's the first mind-meld we see as well)

"The Alternative Factor" - 5/10 - Man fights parallel universe version of himself. Full of high concept language it tries to sound smarter than it actually is. Drags on a bit and unbelievable decision making on the part of certain characters pull it down. Special effects are pretty poor, even for the time, with the same effect seen multiple times. I'll be avoiding this on rewatches.

"City on the edge of forever" - 10/10 - Fantastic episode. Great performances and great concept with an ethical dilemma as well. There's good reason why it's often considered one of, if not the, best trek episode ever. Love it.

Amok Time up next. Can't wait.

I have finished DS9. The last season had its ups and downs in terms of quality - quite a few downs if I'm being honest - but I'm still really sad to see the show go. Although Picard is still my favourite captain, I think DS9 has my favourite crew.

Started watching the original series this week. It's surprisingly decent so far and the special effects really hold up.

If you're watching on Netflix, it's the remastered version where they redid all the effects and boosted it to HD.

That'll explain it! I did think it looked a bit too advanced for the 60's.

Watched The Undiscovered Country last night, which concludes the original cast films. So, as is the ancient tradition:

VI>II>IV>III>I>V

I and V were the only genuinely bad films of the bunch really, and I was surprised how well VI held up (it was always my fav as a kid).

Now on to Generations which I saw once in the cinema upon release.

I couldn't think what V was. But yes, after a quick google, that one is dreadful. Why does God need a starship.

Generations held up pretty well too, although Patrick Stewart's attempt at crying was bad. It was bad.

About halfway through season 2 and absolutely loving it.

Babylon 5 is an all time classic.
G'Kar is pretty much a perfect character as he goes through pretty much everything and it never seems over the top.

I haven't watched B5 before but just noticed that it has been remastered in HD recently. Currently on amazon and iTunes for £14.99 per season...so tempting as the DVD quality Ive seen in the past put me off so I never watched it.

Certainly, give it a go as I don't think you'll be disappointed.
There's a reason B5 is regarded as one of the best Sci-Fi shows ever.
Series 1 is a slow start but still great but once it gets going the world building really kicks-in and I think you'll really start getting into it as the characters are just so well done.
It's one of the few programs I just don't think could be remade as the actors did such a wonderful job and characters like Londo or G'Kar being done by anyone else would be impossible to have the same impact.

Let us know if you do start and what you think as I think you'll be rather sad you waited so long to watch it.

Thank you! I'm looking forward to it! So glad it's available on stream. Just bought the remastered season one from Apple TV. Will let you know what I think of it.
