I'm glad SNW has a 4th season but I'm sad Lower Decks is going to end. It's been a good time consistently since the start.

They should replace Lower Decks with a sequel called Upper Decks following the misadventures of Captain Boimler and First Officer Mariner.

Really like Lower Decks -- sad it's ending, but it's had a good run.

Yeah.

I'll be sad to see it go. It was nice to see something that celebrated the weird and ridiculous parts of Trek while still being respectful of the franchise and it's values.

Feeling a bit down in general on where Trek seems to be going at the moment.

I've got little interest in them expanding the Discovery timeline with Starfleet Academy (Which I assume will have.... Tilly, in it. :dread: ) and the Section 31 movie.

I'm glad Strange New Worlds is still boldly going, but with Discovery and Lower Decks both ending after five seasons I'm worried we've not got much longer with it either.
Not to mention the fate of Prodigy.

I'm still hopeful for something to come out of Picard, be that Legacy or something else.

So yeah it's a mixed bag going forward I think.

I'd only just started watching Lower Decks (blitzed through the four seasons in about a month), so of course it's finishing now  I jinxed it, sorry guys.

Just over half-way through Season 5 of Discovery and it still manages to be the definition of "meh".
It's not bad and I'm enjoying the episodes enough, but as usual it's never quite hitting the marks I would like.

Things I have enjoyed so far though:

Callum Keith-Rennie - Good god I wish he'd been in the show from the start. Love his character, though I hate what they are doing to him. He's gone from acting like an actual Starfleet Officer (One who basically told Tilly to knock her gooseberry fool off ) and now they're bringing him down to their level. It's one thing I've always hated about the show and specifically about how Burnham works as Captain. Its basically "Space pals!" and they all talk like they're in strawberry floating Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I want some god-damn professionalism from these people.

I loved them bringing the ISS Enterprise into the show. Bringing it into their universe as well no-less. It made sense with the shows connection to the MU and being able to reuse the Strange New Worlds sets made perfect sense. Nice to get a nod to SNW here before it wraps up.

Not sure why they felt the need to ruin the Breen though. :?

Beyond that it's more of what we've come to expect, except with less Saru.

I will be sad to see the show end. I've grown to accept it for what it is, not what I wanted it to be and it does have it's moments.

Oscar winner Holly Hunter has been tapped to star in Paramount+’s upcoming series Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. Hunter will play the captain and chancellor of Starfleet Academy in the series which will begin production later this summer.

Produced by CBS Studios, the series will follow the adventures of a new class of Starfleet cadets as they come of age in one of the most legendary places in the galaxy.

Per the logline: Star Trek: Starfleet Academy introduces viewers to a young group of cadets who come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism. Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.

Prodigy returns July 1st on Netflix! :toot: :toot: :toot:

strawberry floating loved Prodigy and I'm so glad they were able to get the second season made. Hopefully it's not the last.

Spoilers for season 1 and cast news for season 2.

Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 picks up from the events of Star Trek: Prodigy season 1's finale. Dal R'El (Brett Gray), Murf (Dee Bradley Baker), Zero (Angus Imrie), Rok'Tahk (Rylee Alazraqui), and Jankom Pog (Jason Mantzoukas) have become Starfleet warrant officers under Admiral Janeway. They will join her new mission to lead the USS Voyager-A into a spatial anomaly to rescue Captain Chakotay (Robert Beltran) from an alternate future timeline. Guiding the former Protostar crew will be The Doctor (Robert Picardo), who joins Star Trek: Prodigy season 2's cast.

Meanwhile, Gwyndala (Ella Purnell) chose to travel to the Vau N'Akat homeworld of Solum to try to prevent the disastrous First Contact with Starfleet that led to decades of war and the tragic time travel events of Star Trek: Prodigy season 1. Star Trek: Prodigy's executive producers Kevin and Dan Hageman and Aaron J. Waltke promise that Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 will tie into every era of Star Trek, and that the season 2 finale will wrap up the saga but leave the door open for Star Trek: Prodigy season 3.Star Trek: Prodigy season 2's epic adventure begins July 1st on Netflix.

The whole of Prodigy Season 2 is out now on Netflix apparently. (I've not had a chance to check yet)

Cinemablend loved it. (Spoiler free as far as I can tell).
https://www.cinemablend.com/streaming-news/star-trek-prodigy-season-2-might-be-best-serialized-season-franchise-history-need-season-3

The creative team behind Star Trek: Prodigy set out to create a new series that would entice a new generation of children into the greater fandom. But, by the end of Season 2, it accomplished so much more than that. Following the latest batch of twenty episodes, we have what I will boldly say is the greatest serialized Trek story that's ever been delivered bar none. That's right, I'm ranking it above previous seasons of Discovery, Picard, Strange New Worlds and every other serialized arc. It's that damn good, and everyone who has been a part of that ride should be rewarded with Season 3 and more.

...and one of the most ambitious temporal stories the Star Trek franchise has ever done. I can understand why the series' creators were frustrated to hear it was canceled mid-production, because this season is a masterpiece.

The tale that Kevin and Dan Hageman and crew wrote for Prodigy Season 2 doesn't just deserve the attention of every Trekkie who can stream it. The installments stand among some of the best stories every created for the franchise. Season 2 is delightful from start to finish, written as a love letter for those who enjoy Trek regardless of their age. Stories this wonderful, this cohesive and this exciting are few and far between. Don't be the person that watches it years later and regrets not doing so sooner. Check it now, and give these guys a chance to tell more stories in this beloved universe.

strawberry float yeah. :toot: :toot: :toot:

Gonna make a start on this tomorrow I think.

Decided to break it down into 4-episode chunks over the next few days.

Episode 4 ended on what I can only describe as an "oooooooohhhhhh" moment as it appears they are picking up a plot thread left hanging by one of the older shows (Not Voyager this time).

Specifically...

Shadowy future guy from Enterprise is back and talking to Murf/Murv!

But lots of other things to enjoy here.

Lots of Jeffries Tube action!
New Voyager! I hope we get a better look at it, but I get that the Protostar is the real "ship" for this show.
Robert Picardo is predictably great as the EMH.
I took great pleasure in Dal describing a temporal mission as "Timey-Wimey Stuff" as they are being briefed by "The Doctor".
Especially as I'd just wrapped up a couple of Capaldi era Doctor Who episodes before this.

The "Temporal Mechanics 101" training video was fantastic, if a little bit too obviously silly.

There are lots of little nods and references to loads of different shows, but it's never "member this... member this...". They all make sense in the story and are relevant to what is going on.
Spotted references to DS9, Lower Decks, Voyager, TNG, Voyage Home and of course Enterprise. I'm positive I will have missed more as well.

So yeah a solid return and I'm interested to see where they are going with it.
Again, I implore you all to not sleep on this show. It needs support if we want a third season and it's easily one of the best Trek shows.

Yeah I'm about 2/3rds of the way through - but it's really good. I'm not quite as hyperbolic as some of those reviews, but it's still very good. Proper Voyager Reunion at somepoints and as CD the reference/call backs never come across as Memberberries.

8 Episodes in and I'm loving it, as I'd hoped. Would have watched more but had less time to watch TV this weekend than I would have liked.

Unless it skyrockets in quality though, I would agree it's not as good as the review I posted would suggest.

Still fantastic Trek TV though.

Speaking of Voyager: when are they going to deal with the Doctor?! He was my favourite character on Voyager and in the AI aftermath of Picard I would have liked to have seen what happened to him.

Plus Robert Picardo is a brilliant actor.

I finished it last night - and I think it's probably the most consistent series of Trek in sometime I'm not sure it reachs the highest highs.

Bold ending though!#

Up to episode 12 now...

Not sure how I feel about crazy, space hobo Wesley but I guess we'll see. I am wondering if he's actually a villain at this point as Janeway seems unconvinced by him.
So am I right in thinking that the implication here is that Future Guy from Enterprise wasn't necessarily Wesley, but some other traveller/supervisor just making sure events went as they should?
Shame as I would have quite liked them to more directly explain that. But him being a Supervisor works I guess.
I was hoping for it to tie in more directly, but I've still got eight episodes to go so we'll see.

Between this and one of the last scenes in Discovery it's been nice to see them go back to some of the Enterprise plot points that were left hanging.

Thought it was crazy to see another Gary Seven reference though (After Picard S2, which we shall never talk about again). Recognised the office from "Assignment: Earth" as soon as Wesley took them there.
Was also cool to see Beverley show up again for a quick scene.

I loved grumpy Chakotay. Though it was a shame Areek (Commander Beaky, can't remember his name) died but I loved the whole sequence of getting the Protostar fuelled up and back into space. Genuinely love that ship.

This show just makes me smile.

Up to episode 16 now.

Those four episodes were all excellent.

I'm loving the mix of small contained stories within the larger arc.
A Tribble Called Quest - Always nice to see Tribbles and this was another great episode with them. Rok coming to terms with her "Unforseen variable" was great and Bribble is cute as hell.

Cracked Mirror - The mirror universe is always a delight, but this one was especially fun. Murf giving himself the "evil" goatee never failed to make me smile whenever he popped up.
Evil Janeway was cool as well, but "Even the Whales are evil!" was the highlight of the whole thing for me. Glorious fun.
Also another appearance for Okana? Keeping Billy Campbell in work.

Ascension Part 1 and 2 were a great reminder of the greater threat and had some fun ship action sequences. I was a little disappointed that they reverted to the "Giant Evil Ship" trope, but they pulled it off really well and it felt like there was some genuine threat there. The use of the time manipulation tech, both to advance their weaponry and to attack the ship was a great idea. Zero sacrificing what time she had left in her body was genuinely touching and the reveal of her upgraded robo-casing was cool.

I did have to chastise Ascensia for not making Wes stop talking in the appropriate manner though.
