I wasn't too enamoured with ep.1 but thought that ep.2, while still nothing special, was a significant step up in quality when compared to the first. Episode 3, though :dread:

Given EPs 1 and 3 were directed by Robert Rodriguez, I think it might be his approach to the material that's preventing me from enjoying this show more. Fingers crossed he's not doing anymore.

Episode 2 was a better episode I’ll give you that.

Honestly, I watched the chase part wondering if they have/plan to make a new ride at Disneyland based on it. The tone of it felt so out of place.

I feel a bit like I’m done with Tatooine at the moment as a setting, it’s been hammered to death and whilst I recognise it’s importance I hope Obi-Wan isn’t all there too.

I did think the other night how cool some normal
style TV shows would be set in the Universe. A political drama/thriller like House of Cards but set in the senate - with the background of the universe around it it could be so different

Exactly how I feel.

I'm fed up looking at sand.

My thinking is that it lets them keep the budget for digital effects lower as they don't need to create new looking planets and locations every week. Instead they just run the "sand-dune generation software" for their digital set gubbins and sling a few bags of builders sand on the floor of the studio for the actors to walk on.

Lets be honest. Tatooine was meant to be the arsehole of nowhere. Yet everything seems to strawberry floating happen there.

For the love of god can they do something based on Nar Shaddaa?

It was the primary base of a 600 year old Hutt's criminal empire, so it's not exactly nowhere. But, in the 65-ish years of the whole 9 movie time period, on this one planet:

• A kid is born under odd circumstances into slavery, wins a race, leaves.
• Kid returns ten years later, massacres an indigenous tribe.
• Wartime power games and stuff with the Hutt and other local crooks.
• Middle aged robed man delivers child to childless couple, gets a house, grows old, maybe has a misadventure or two, kills an alien dude looking for him, helps a lost kid.
• Minor space skirmish over the planet.
• Child grows up, seeks old robed man, loses adoptive parents to unexplained fire, gets into a fracas in a bar, leaves with a sketchy duo and some robots.
• Planet's daimyo, Jabba, dies 5 years later, after a prisoner escape.
• Empire falls, slaver mining guild moves in just to be shitty.
• Bounty hunter and several others survive old daimyo's explosive death, indigenous people take bounty hunter in, rehabilitate him, die after pissing off crime syndicate.
• Local economy nosedives.
• Wanted Imperial war criminal holds up in desert, almost gets captured, instead saved by former bounty hunter.
• Slaver mining guild gets the boot.
• Bounty hunter sets up as crime boss.
• Crime syndicate war brews.

It's not a huge list of events for a whole planet.

I should have specified that in New Hope it was meant to be the arsehole of nowhere. It's the Coronation Street of planets.

That was mainly Luke complaining, tbf. I have always read that as the whinging of a teenager complaining about his home town.

I bet teenagers in Lincoln complain that they're in a dull shithole, and they'd arguably be correct, but that doesn't mean nothing happens in the entire world.

It's been in 6 movies and 4 tv shows. There are other places they could be.

I don't think that's going to happen unless Boba loses the crime war.

I’m really enjoying this and reading post episode reviews pointing out how this references other movies and shows.

With that said, I’m looking for some recommendations. I’ve seen all the movies and loved the Mandalorian and am thinking about dipping my toes in to some more of the canon. If I’m looking for more Boba back story, where is the best place to start?

What order should I be watching these animated shows in?

Any recommendations would be appreciated

The Clone Wars is where you should start, and is the only place a young Boba stars at present (in the animated media, anyway). You'll find him at the backend of season 2, and then an episode at the backend of season 4 (with a small appearance earlier in the season). From there, you've got Bad Batch and Rebels. And Resistance.

From what I've seen, there's not really much in the way of young Boba stories other than The Clone Wars stuff. The various comic books do feature him during the period of the original trilogy, with a number of adventures he had.

Perfect, thanks!

It doesn’t have to be Boba Fett specifically, but some sort of through-line to get me started would be great.

Am I right in taking the Clone Wars is set around the prequel trilogy?

Where are the other animated shows set? Is there one around The original trilogy and one around the sequel trilogy?

The Clone Wars is set between 2 and 3, and runs right into 3. Bad Batch gives a different perspective of the end of the war, pretty much being a direct continuation of The Clone Wars. Rebels is set a few years before 4. Resistance is set leading into, during and after the events of 7 and 8.

As for the comics, it might be good to give the Age of Star Wars books a try, being various one-shot issues telling small stories about various characters of those eras. The current main series of the comics follow the events between 5 and 6, which does have an interesting story to tell.
