Can't have emotional engagement if the characters have barely started to be developed. :shifty:

Story beats just seem to plod on without ever inducing any real emotional engagement. I mean look at Jabba's palace in ROTJ; absolutey dripping with atmosphere from the first moment we see it. Here it's just presented so mundanely and matter-of-factly. About as atmospheric as call cente office.

The whole thing did feel a bit budget.

Pixar's Up had me sobbing like a child in the first ten minutes. I honestly think it's less a matter of time and more a question of good writing and directing.

Really enjoyed the first episode. I remember I was worried Mando would be boring after the first episode but it had such a great build up.

Kind of expecting C3PO to appear at some point as technically Boba has inherited him!

I understand that there are different ways to approach the task of showing a life unfolding over many years, the changing of a person from a cynical, angry young man into a more considered, mature adult. A ten minute storyboard could have done a great job for Fett, made the right way, but it would be as controversial a decision as I can imagine anyone making in Star Wars, because it hasn't been done yet, and may not be a good fit for a space crime western.

But, this is a six or seven part series, perhaps the first of a couple, not a 96 minute movie with all the storytelling constraints that that imposes, so I don't think there's any need to ape Pixar. There's much more room to explore Boba's changing life.

Sorry, I wasn't suggesting that TBoBF should have utilised the exact same storytelling device as the beginning of Up does. In fact, if anything, that particular approach in this case would only exacerbate the demystification of a character whose original appeal, I would suggest, lay largely in his enigmaticness. I was merely pointing out that in skilled hands a viewer can be made to become emotionally invested in a story within even a short space of time.

I gotta be honest, what's left of Boba's original mysterious appeal, first eroded in the Clone Wars, then the Mandalorian, and various comics, probably isn't going to survive this show.

We're watching the man emerge from the shadows of his old life, and preconceived ideas of who he is probably won't apply to the man he has become.

Just finished the first episode of boba pretty enjoyable, looking forward to the next episode.

I probably missed the explanation but what's with the chamber thing he sleeps in? Is it some sort of healing thing?

Re watching a few of the star wars films - just wondering what a definitive "rewatch" order should be. coming up with this;

1) Star Wars (ep IV a new hope)
2) Empire Strikes Back
3) Phantom Menace
4) Clone Wars
5) Clone Wars animated series. (- there are a good few episodes that can be skipped)
6) bad batch (some can also be skipped)
7) Revenge of the Sith
8) Rebels. (again some episodes can and should be skipped)
9) Solo.
10) Rogue One.
11) Star Wars (ep IV a new hope)
12) Empire Strikes Back
13) Return of the Jedi.
14) Mandalorian S1/ S2.

Im hoping the Ahsoka Tano series (after 14) and OB Wan Kenobi series (somewhere between 7-11) will slide right into place in these. Star Wars and Empire deserve thier rewatch/recap. There are some of the animated series that can be skipped, but there are some that are really well interwoven to the star wars lore that totally enriches Eps I / II / III. IMO The other star wars "films" should be deleted.

For me, so far, the book of boba fett shouldnt have been made. - leave the mystery behind the cool character. At the moment this is turning into becoming just a fat old bloke making a fool of himself.

Second episode of Book of Boba Fett gives a great look at Tusken tribalism/culture. It's pretty interesting.

Still can't believe that place they go in the present is Mos Espa. It's huge.

Second episode is great. Are Tusken heists going to become a staple of these shows now?

Proper Shadows of the Empire vibes from that second section, too.

Well, gotta make up for all the Tuskens Anakin killed in Attack of the Clones.

The train fight was expertly crafted. So good.

Still giving me the same vibes as A man called Horse

Very enjoyable. I do wonder what all the fans who are crying wanted them to do? Make a TV show and make him like Terminator?

Well, if bad-ass bounty hunter not blowing stuff up, then he not bad-ass bounty hunter.

Or something to that effect, no doubt.

Most likely.

I'm enjoying it so far, but it's not blown me away or anything.

I do have one thing I'm not a massive fan of.

Tatooine.... again.
Not helped by the fact that Obi-Wan is also probably going to have a decent chunk of time spent there. I'm so beyond bored of this planet. 6 of the 9 numbered movies end up there at some point (7 if you include Jakku, which might as well be Tatooine).
But sand is cheaper than other locations I guess. Also, going by the story they seem to be telling, they need to be there. I'm not expecting a lot of variety in locations but there better be some changes coming in that regard. Hopefully we get a decent chunk off-world showing him meeting Fennec.

Episode 2 thoughts:

More Hutts! :o It's going to be very difficult for Fett to get rid of them. What Leia did to Jabba, and Sy Snootles did to Ziro, are rare occurrences. Either he needs to persuade them to go find another planet to take over, or he has to find a reason the other Hutts might benefit from their untimely demise.

Black Krrsantan, the infamous Wookiee bounty hunter, looks amazing in live action. Super menacing.

My wallet is bleeding at the future merch we're getting from all this. Tuskens, several Boba variants, likely a Bantha, etc.

Apparently the young woman in the bar Boba wrecked was named Caimi, and was one of Luke's friends at Anchorhead before he left to pursue a life of repeated traumas. Pretty neat little deep cut cameo.

Boba Fett's Speeder Bike Academy was possibly the best thing I've seen in a while. "Like a Bantha!" :msgreen:

Pyke Syndicate spice train robbery was amazing. Great to finally see the Pykes in live action CG.

The vision quest was spectacular, and it's nice to have Tatooine's ocean past finally make the leap from Legends to canon lore. The gaffi stick stuff was wonderful too, very wholesome.

Meme potential strawberry floating everywhere in this gooseberry fool. Amazing.

They're disappointed that they can't project their own weak idea of "hard man toughness" onto him; misogyny, bigotry, takes no prisoners, general fascism, etc. Now he's an actual person.

Although, I will say, young Boba was likely a very angry young man, struggling to process his grief, etc. We see some of that in the Clone Wars, but it would be interesting to see an older Fett in flashbacks, working for the Empire and Jabba, perhaps as a way to introduce a new character to the show. It'd be a good way to check up on him between his youth and Book.
