Latest TV spot shows a character not seen properly in any trailers before. ....

Rumors of the behind the scenes stuff and the alleged Lucas cut of the film will probably be more interesting than the final film.

Wish my image sig would work

Is there a supercut 'available' of the first 3 films? I've heard of one by someone called Topher Grace but it's not available anywhere.

Failing that, I'll have to get them all queued up on sky and fast forward through 3 films of gooseberry fool for some key bits.

Topher Grace played Eric in That 70s Show and like his character, he is a massive Star Wars geek. He edited the 3 into an 85 minute cut called Star Wars: Episode III.5: The Editor Strikes Back, but I believe it's only been shown once at a private screening.

There's something called the Anti-Cheese edits that I think people quite like, but they're not supercuts of all 3 together.

A few of us should just grab the film, record some new lines and edit them over it for a GRcade cut.

Would be interesting. You can be jar jar.

Good point. The Jar Jar role only really requires a big commitment for the first movie anyway.

I call dibs on the Palpatine role, the true hero of the saga. :datass:

The script will be different and we're making Palpatine a really pervy old man.

Just booked tickets for the Friday  Hope I can avoid most spoilers for a couple of days. Is someone going to make a SPOILER THREAD closer to the official release?

Still quite disappointed that this trilogy hasn't really had much in the way of iconic (or even really just *new*) ship designs (Kylo's shuttle aside, I guess). Even Rogue One decided to add a new spin on the TIE Fighter :(

I'll be watching them all soon in the run to Episode 9 (the other Skywalker Saga films, at least), probably going a trilogy a day depending on how I feel.

TL;Dr - Far, far better than the other two prequels and there's actually a decent movie under there somewhere. Unfortunately it's ruined by terrible direction, acting and dialogue.

Read the novelisation. Thank me later. Although for some reason people think they ruined Anakin in the killing of the Separatist leadership scene. I really don't understand why.

Nah, better than Clones but still a terrible piece of cinema.

The biggest 'surprise' (it wasn't a surprise) of viewing all the prequels back to back after not seeing them for ages is just how gooseberry fool Phantom Menace is. It's atrocious. Not on the level of Clones, but not far off either.

Sith is far better than both, although it's still bad.

No wonder you didn't enjoy it Taff if you WERE ON TWITTER ALL THE WAY THROUGH  How could you concentrate on the amazing dialogue?

Vue are doing a thing on Twitter to submit star wars memory photos and have them shown before the film nationwide. I put our ones with Chewie and Kylo from holywood studios a few years back it haven't told the wife. Should be pretty funny on the day if they get used.

Weirdly enough there's a "Post thing thing everyone hates but you love" thread on my timeline and a bunch of folks are saying "the prequels" or specifically "The Phantom Menace".

Opinion are...opinions and all but no. The prequels are bad, bad bad films and TPM is strawberry floating atrocious. There's one good sequence (the podrace) and one ok fight (with Maul, made infinitely better by the music) and that's it. The story is dull, the acting atrocious and Lucas never, ever makes any use of the camera at all.

EDIT: Also this:

http://www.starwarsringtheory.com/

It's a super well done article, more like an essay, that posits the prequels were mirror versions of their respective Original Trilogy films. It's all nonsense of course, but nonsense that's very well written, presented and researched. It's more entertaining than the prequels themselves, for sure.

Nostalgia is a huge part of it, being 12 and getting to see a new Star Wars film at the cinema was awesome.

I think Lucas himself said that something along those lines was going on. I seem to remember there being a bit in the Red Letter Media reviews that had Lucas talking about how there were certain 'Chorus' of action sequences/character moments that recurred in all of the films across the trilogies.

Yeah, he called it 'poetry'. It's still a load of rubbish though. The examples given for Phantom and Jedi work, just about, but the rest are a real stretch. Almost as if Lucas set himself a task he couldn't follow through on. I've no doubt this sort of cycle was what he was trying to do, but I also think there's no doubt he failed. The essay is more of a critical analysis of the writing and structure, which is why it's super interesting, but it disregards the actual films themselves as holistic creations and how terrible they are.
