Opening weekend box office is apparently $175m.

The Force Awakens got to $220m, and The Last Jedi amazingly got to $250m

It’s still going to make them loads of money but can’t help expecting they’ll be disappointed

Is the drop-off in line with what usually happens to the third film in a trilogy though?

Apparently TLJ had a similar drop-off percentage-wise compared to Attack of the Clones and Empire.

AOTC and TLJ were never going to match their predecessor's totals, seeing as they were released after a long hiatus and with anticipation much higher.

I think TLJ will have slightly hurt ROS, but also the numerous leaks and reports of it being a bit of a mess being widespread well before release. I'd be surprised if its numbers were as a result of that though, rather than just the natural diminishing returns of more films in the series. Having Solo and Rogue One as well will have heightened that.

Not sure studio execs will think like that though. As Jim Sterling says, they just want all the money.

Gonna have a Johnson day today. Rewatch of TLJ followed by a trip to see Knives Out.

A pallette cleanser day.

I’ve heard it’s got pretty mixed reviews but I’m looking forward to seeing it nonetheless! Done well to not see any spoilers thus far as well.

Sat with the kids waiting for this to start now.

Just spent the best part of ten quid to buy a strawberry floating soft drink, have a feeling that's not going to be the last time I'm strawberry floated over this afternoon.

Look, next time just pop to a Tesco Express on the way and buy a bottle of coke for £1.50, it’s easily avoidable.

So I think they said that's it for Star Wars films for a little while didn't they? So we probably aren't going to see anymore spin-offs or the new 'saga' until probably around 2023 at the earliest?

I seem to recall they're talking about a 3 year break? Then it was supposed to be D&D's film but now it looks like it'll be Rian Johnson's trilogy

There’s a lot of projects swirling about, they haven’t really committed to the next movie’s yet. D&D being sacked probably kills that trilogy so the Rian Johnson trilogy might get the 2022 trilogy slot they’ve mentioned before. There was also that Obi Wan Star Wars Story film but it sounds like that’s moved to a Disney+ project.

There’s been talk by Disney of a Kevin Feige Star Wars project though. I wouldn’t be surprised to see that become the new focus in a few years.

Obi Wan is in full production under Deborah Chow. It'll hit Disney+ sometime before the new films

Johnson having his own film(s) on his own terms should prove very interesting. He could use a co-writer though, and there are a good few wonderful choices he could pick from, if he so chose.

But right now I don't think it's at all clear that he'll be doing any SW films. We'll have to wait and see.
